applications for the Tenured Professorship position in the area of digital humanities
in Linguistics and literary theory and criticism
To increase its competence in the use of modern digital tools, the University of Latvia is launching an open competition for a tenured professor's vacancy in the field of digital humanities. The vacancy regards general development of digital humanities research and study programmes at UL and their interconnection with the European Research Area as well as the corresponding European research infrastructures. The tenured professor is expected to demonstrate high quality intensive research activity both in Latvia and internationally. The position provides for motivational remuneration and support in the creation of a research group.
The tenured professor will be expected to:
- Create a research group
- Conduct high quality scientific research and publish its results
- Raise research funding
- Participate in educating students by supervising their thesis and delivering study courses (not more than 4 academic hours per week)
- Build research-based collaboration with the public sector
Precise terms of reference along with the performance indicators for each tenured professorship position are specified in the regulation on the competition.
Main qualification requirements for the tenured professorship position:
- Degree of the Doctor of Philosophy
- An internationally recognised specialist in the field who conducts scientific research and conducts knowledge or technology transfer commensurate with modern standards
- Experience in organizational work and team management in the past six years
- Outstanding performance in research or pedagogical work or any other professional domain
- C1 level of English and recommended C1 level of Latvian
- General competencies – leadership, cooperation and persuasion skills, ability to create and strategically and conceptually implement various ideas

- Curriculum vitae including self-assessment of language skills, the applicant’s contact information (telephone number, e-mail address, postal address), ORCID iD number, scientific, pedagogical, organisational, as well as other professional work experience, activities for improvement of qualification, major publications, other information that fully characterises the applicant’s qualification and compliance with the requirements, information about the persons who may provide recommendations, or feedback from co-operation partners
- Copies of documents certifying scientific and academic degrees
- Research plan for the next 6 years in a free form, including the specific tasks of the field of work described in the regulation on the competition

We offer:
- salary - associate tenured professor starting from EUR 5600 per month (gross), tenured professor from EUR 7000 per month (gross)
- motivational performance funding for the attraction of international projects
- health insurance
- paid additional holiday
- initial grant of EUR 30'000 upon assuming scientific activity
- remuneration for the position of one doctoral student (from October 2025)
- annual funding for the research group of at least EUR 30'000

Applications will be evaluated by the selection commission and Professors Council of Linguistics and literary theory and criticism. The results of the competition will be announced by 01.11.2024.
The work will have to be commenced between January and September 2025.
