Applications for the Tenured Professorship position in the area of Modelling Scalable Chemical Processes

in Chemistry

 

The University of Latvia is launching an open competition for a tenured professor's vacancy in the field of modelling scalable chemical processes to increase its competence in the use of modern digital tools. The vacancy regards the modelling of scalable chemical processes at the laboratory, modelling for the potential needs of the chemical industry of Latvia (pharmaceutical, wood chemistry, polymers, etc.), with the use of modern digital tools (high performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), etc. and the possibilities they provide. The tenured professor is expected to demonstrate high quality intensive research activity both in Latvia and internationally. The position provides for motivational remuneration and support in the creation of a research group.

The tenured professor will be expected to:

  • Create a research group
  • Conduct high quality scientific research and publish its results
  • Raise research funding
  • Participate in educating students by supervising their theses and delivering study courses (not more than 4 academic hours per week)
  • Build a research-based collaboration with the public and private sector.

Precise terms of reference along with the performance indicators for each tenured professorship position are specified in the regulation on the competition.

Main qualification requirements for the tenured professorship position:

  • Degree of the Doctor of Philosophy
  • An internationally recognised specialist in the field who performs scientific research, and conducts knowledge or technology transfer commensurate with modern standards
  • Experience of organizational work and team management in the past six years
  • Demonstrates outstanding performance in research or pedagogical work, or any other professional domain
  • C1 knowledge of English
  • General competencies – leadership, cooperation and persuasion skills, ability to create and strategically and conceptually implement various ideas

  • Application addressed to the UL Rector
  • Curriculum vitae including self-assessment of the language skills, the applicant’s contact information (telephone number, e-mail address, postal address), ORCID iD number, scientific, pedagogical, organisational, as well as other professional work experience, qualification development, major publications, other information that fully characterises the applicant’s qualification and compliance with the requirements, information about the persons who may provide references, or feedback from co-operation partners
  • Copies of documents certifying scientific and academic degrees
  • Research plan for the next 6 years in a free form, including the specific tasks of the field of work described in the regulations on the competition

We offer:

  • salary - associate tenured professor starting from EUR 5600 per month (gross), tenured professor from EUR 7000 per month (gross)
  • motivational performance funding for the attraction of international projects

  • initial grant of EUR 30'000 when assuming scientific activity
  • remuneration for the position of one doctoral student (from October 2025)
  • annual funding for the research group of at least EUR 30'000

University of Latvia Regulation on Professorship Tenure

The documents must be submitted electronically. The documents must be signed with a secure electronic signature containing the time stamp and sent by e-mail to pd.vakances@lu.lv  by 15.09.2024 17:00 EET with the indication “For the competition to the tenured professorship position at the University of Latvia”.

Applications will be evaluated by the selection commission and the Chemistry Professors Council. The results of the competition will be announced by 01.11.2024.

The work will have to be commenced between January and September 2025.
