Doctoral students and applicants for a scientific degree at the University of Latvia will receive grants

On February 1, 2012, the University of Latvia has launched the second project of the European Social Fund – „Support for Doctoral Studies at the University of Latvia – 2”. It will allow doctoral students and applicants for a scientific degree to receive grants in the total amount of more than 950,000 LVL. This support is intended for all educational thematic groups. Allocation of special purpose grants will increase the number of students on the doctoral level and those who obtain a doctoral degree. The University of Latvia offers 24 doctoral study programmes in a variety of disciplines, from philology and sociology to physics and medicine. Researchers and Students Invited to Participate in Agora of Knowledge

,” Professor Signe Bāliņa, Deputy Rector for Digital Society, invites the researchers and students to participate in the Agora of Knowledge. It is planned to broadcast the Agora of Knowledge in an interactive format online, as well as to ensure publicity before and after the event – all presentations will be recorded, the video material and a press release will be issued, and a publication printed in the University of Latvia magazine “Alma Mater”. The estimated duration of each presentation will be 7–8 minutes. Latvia attracts international students with high quality education

Yesterday, on November 30th, we held a co-creation workshop “Is Latvia Welcoming to International Students?”, during which international students from all around the world shared their experiences of living and studying in Latvia. These are the four problem-solution based themes we discussed with the students. · Destination choice & study program choice : we talked about how they made the decision to come to Latvia, how they chose their study program, as well as what they thought of the quality of their studies. · Formalities before and during your stay in Latvia : we focused on finding out students’ experiences with visa application, governmental agencies, housing and other practicalities. · Social and cultural integration in Latvia : during this topic, we learnt about students’ engagement in cultural activities in Latvia, what their social circles are like here and how they keep in touch with their friends and family back home. · Your future plans : last but not least
International students impression about Riga and their studies

Every year the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Latvia is chosen by an increasing number of international students who want to spend a semester or the whole academic year here in Riga. 37 international students are taking the course Leisure and Tourism Management with the lecturer Kristine Berzina and within this course students need to make practical assignments in order to have a better knowledge about the course. I talked to Mustafa Enes Tepe from Turkey, Kangil Kim, Hyung Kim and Ji Yoon Song from South Korea to find out their impression about Riga and their studies. What was the assignment? We had to make groups of 2 – 4 people (there were 14 groups in total) and we had to make a practical research on how Riga inhabitants can help tourists who are lost. We had to pretend that we are confused tourists – an obligatory requirement was that we had a map – in order to find out how helpful are local people in helping us – by giving direction and other things
Students take part in FORTHEM intercultural seminar Language and Literature of the Golden Age

On March 22, students and teaching staff of four FORTHEM alliance universities – University of Burgundy, University of Palermo, University of Latvia and University of Valencia – participated in the jointly organised intercultural seminar on the language and literature of the Golden Age. The seminar took place on Zoom, with more than 180 participants. The seminar was dedicated to the analysis of Golden Age prose, poetry and plays, as well as their translations. It was held in Spanish, providing students with a great opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of the language and its application in the research undertaken. The international event was opened by prof. Amparo Ricos Vidal, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Spanish Philology of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication at the University of Valencia. The seminar was moderated by the teaching staff of the four universities, while the students presented their research on the works of Miguel de Cervantes
96 students from Ukraine begin “European Union” studies in Faculty of Social Sciences

The Political Science Department of the University of Latvia's Faculty of Social Sciences, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, for the seventh consecutive year hosts students from various Ukrainian universities in an intensive training three-month-long module the Young professionals` school: “Studies of the European Union – Internal and Foreign Policy”. This year, the project will be implemented from 20th September to 18th December 2020. The studies take place in English and are meant for Ukrainian students who obtain or have already obtained higher education. The European Studies module consists of two integrated parts: Foreign Affairs (with courses such as Europeanization: from partnership to membership and Foundation of the European Union ) and Domestic Affairs (governance and management of the European Union, politics and policy in Latvia, strategic communication and public diplomacy). University of Latvia invites prospective international students to submit applications for studies at the University of Latvia. For academic year 2024/2025 there are 15 bachelor level, 16 master and 15 doctoral level study programmes available. Currently there are more than 1000 foreign students studying at University of Latvia. To complete admission successfully, one has to pay attention to application deadlines, which can vary depending on the country of residence. Full list of study programme offer with admission requirements and all other relevant information. For bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral study programmes, the citizens of non-EU/EEA countries and citizens of visa-free countries must to apply until 20.06.2024, however, if you are an EU and EEA citizen, your application must be submitted until 23.07.2024. Three students from Latvia will participate in EU - Canada Study Tour 2012

It is the third year when students from the University of Latvia take part in the one month long “Thinking Canada” study tour to Brussels and Canada organised by European Network for Canadian Studies and funded generously by the European Commission. This year there are three students from the University of Latvia participating in the study tour as part of the group of total 32 students representing various European countries and academic backgrounds. Two of these students – Javier Mendoza Jimenez (representing the Kingdom of Spain in the tour) and Aleksandrs Dahs come from the European Studies Master's Programme, while Vladimirs Rojenko is currently studying in Strategic Management and Leadership Masters programme at the Faculty of Economics and Management. Aim of the “Thinking Canada” programme is to promote interest in Canadian studies in Europe and to develop a new generation of educated individuals who are interested in Canada and its relations with EU.
