The Faculty of Theology was established on February 4, 1920. Various commemorative events will be held in the honour of the 90th anniversary of the Faculty foundation – an ecumenical service, an opening of an exhibition, conference, Students’ Day, a carnival, etc. At present the Faculty of Theology is the only academic institution in Latvia that offers the opportunity to pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctor’s degrees as well as teacher’s qualification in the fields of theology and religion research in internationally recognised study programmes. The Faculty is proud of its history and its modern, critical scientific approach to the theology and religion research. In the academic year 1939/40 the UL Faculty of Theology had more students than any other faculty of theology in Europe (228 students and 18 faculty staff members). From July 15th-19th, 2013 Faculty of Economics and Management of University of Latvia hosts international Business and Economics Summer School 2013. Summer school is organized annually by Campus Europae every time in different partner university and, after success of first summer school in University of Aveiro in Portugal, this year Riga and University of Latvia welcomes 18 students from Portugal, Spain, Greece, Poland, Lithuania, Finland, Russia and Latvia. Main focus of this year’s summer school is – economics and management of innovation: overcoming economic crisis and its social consequences. Since the topic is current in the whole of Europe and it impacts numerous fields and sectors, students also were from different level of studies – undergraduate, postgraduate and even doctoral students. Needed skills and knowledge in tourism business development have been aligned in the so-called Central Baltic Area: Finland, Estonia, and Latvia. The relevant skills and knowledge were identified by interviewing more than 100 tourism professionals in three countries. Based on their responses the new curriculum “Boosting Tourism Business Growth” was designed jointly by four higher education institutions. The new curriculum (33 ECTS credits) supports development of the Central Baltic Area as a common tourism destination. In particular, the curriculum enables students to develop skills and knowledge needed in coping with the changing circumstances of tourism business, especially with the growth of international tourism in the area. Antropoloģijas studenti 15. maijā apmeklē LU Latvijas Vēstures institūtu un dalās iespaidos par dzirdēto lekciju “Latvijas vecākie iedzīvotāji – demogrāfija, uztura paradumi un senie DNS pētījumi”. Vēstures institūta apmeklējums un Gunitas Zariņa vieslekcija bija ļoti vērtīga un interesanta bioloģiskās antropoloģijas kursa daļa. Man kā vizuālās informācijas uztvērējai iespēja redzēt un turēt rokās cilvēka mirstīgās atliekas ļāva dziļāk izprast tēmu. Vieslekcija ir lielisks un ietekmīgs mācību līdzeklis. Pat vienkārša vides maiņa veicina jauna studiju materiālu un zināšanu labāku uztveri. Arheoloģiskie atklājumi, ko var iegūt no šāda veida pētījumiem, sniedz ļoti vērtīgu ieguldījumu vispārējā izpratnē par cilvēku. Arheoloģiskā pieeja piedāvā vairāk datu interpretācijas iespēju antropoloģijā. Šī pieeja ir nenovērtējama, saprotot, kā cilvēki dzīvoja, kādi bija apstākļi un kādi bija tie modeļi vai marķieri, kas to parāda. Piemēram, personas zobu izpēte ir drīzāk medicīniska datu

The project VIRT2UE implemented by the Institute of Clinical and Preventive Medicine of the University of Latvia is nearing completion. During the project, 20 participants from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland have already obtained certificates in the trainings organized by the University of Latvia. Project participants - LU doctoral students Zanda Rubene and Reinis Upenieks trained 26 doctoral students in educational sciences at the University and share positive experience HERE . *This project has received funding from the European Union’s “Apvārsnis 2020” research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 787580.
