The tenth summer camp of International Economics and Management Scholars took place at the Northeastern University in Shenyang, China, in July this year. The University of Latvia was represented by 4th-year student of Business Administration, Alisa Uzarina. The theme of the summer camp was “Communication & Cooperation: all around the world”, and the slogan – “Communication, cooperation, innovation, promotion”. Campers were immersed in a multicultural environment, both lecturers and students from different countries were sharing their ideas and were learning from each other. There were about 200 students overall from 8 countries (however, the majority were local Chinese students) and 12 professors (from the USA, Lebanon, Sweden, India etc.). The timetable was highly intensive, classes took most of the day, but that was not so exhausting thanks to the interactive manner. Lai veicinātu pedagoģijas inovāciju idejas skolās, Latvijas Universitātes (LU) Inovāciju centrs LUMIC studentiem piedāvā unikālu iespēju iegūt skolotāja pieredzi eksaktajos mācību priekšmetos. Programmai “Skolotāju kurpēs” aicināti pieteikties augstskolu un koledžu audzēkņi, kuri gatavi izmēģināt savus spēkus pedagoģijā. Aicināts piedalīties jebkurš LU un citu Latvijas augstākās izglītības iestāžu students. Programmas ietvaros studentu komandas izstrādās mācību moduļus un attīstīs pedagoģijas ideju inovācijas par izvēlētajām tēmām STEM mācību priekšmetos – fizika, ķīmija, matemātika, bioloģija, informātika un datorika. In the academic year 2010 /2011 eleven students have been granted Scholarships for Young Researchers to promote research in the field of Humanities, Social and Natural sciences at the University of Latvia (UL). As a prerequisite of receiving the scholarship students must excel in studies, actively participate in public life and be motivated to reach new scientific heights. The total amount of the granted scholarships is 16,100 lats. Ernests Felsbergs’ Memorial Scholarship was granted to - Ieva Fībiga (Faculty of Humanities) and Diāna Fogele (Faculty of Humanities). Modris K.Gulbis’ Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Diāna Lozko (Faculty of Theology). LELCL Tomorrow Fund Scholarship was granted to - Elana Jurgena (Faculty of Theology). The University of Latvia offers students the opportunity to start studies in the Dual Award bachelor's study programme in Computer science, which has been developed in cooperation with the University of Lincoln in the United Kingdom. The studies will be conducted in English, and at the end of the studies, graduates will receive degrees from both universities. The Dual Award programme in Computer Science has been developed using both universities' long-term experience to provide students with the knowledge and skills required in the labour market. After choosing the country and the university of your choice, and receiving a positive answer, I recommend searching for a place to live, because in my experience, it was extremely difficult for me to find one, and use social networks wisely – search for different groups of like-minded people ( Facebook is a very good tool), to address other students and local people and communicate with them, building network before the mobility, so that unclear issues can be resolved more quickly and easily.
