Latvijas Universitātē (LU) jau trešo gadu tiek īstenota Inovāciju grantu programma studentiem, kuras mērķis ir sekmēt studējošo inovācijas spēju, kā arī risināt uzņēmējiem un sabiedrībai nozīmīgus jautājumus. Lai tas izdotos, ir nepieciešams privātpersonu un uzņēmēju atbalsts. 2023. gada 20.-22. oktobrī Latvijas Universitātes (LU) Dabas mājā, Jelgavas ielā 1, norisināsies jau piektais LU Cietvielu Fizikas institūta (LU CFI) organizētais hakatons “Student Deep Science Hackathon”. Pasākumā piedalīties var ikviens students vai vidusskolēns ar vai bez komandas. Starptautiskais hakatons tiek organizēts kā jaunu inovatīvu ideju radīšanas un attīstīšanas darbnīca, kas paredzēta studentiem un vecāko klašu skolēniem, kuri vēlas veidot starpdisciplināras komandas ar inovācijas potenciālu un radīt interesantas idejas STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) jomās. Pasākuma pirmajā dienā dalībnieki veidos komandas, strādās pie idejām un attīstīs tās kopā ar mentoriem. Pasākuma noslēgumā žūrijai, zinātniekiem, investoriem un citiem interesentiem komandas prezentēs savu ideju komercializācijas plānus. Hakatona laikā dalībniekiem tiks nodrošināts profesionālu mentoru atbalsts, kopstrādes vide un informācija komercializācijas soļu veikšanai. Pasākumam

Oktobra pēcpusdienā LU Humanitāro zinātņu fakultātē norisinājās studentu tikšanās ar uzņēmuma “Printful” pārstāvēm Latvijā Ilzi Folkmani un Mariannu Zvaigzni. Uz vieslekciju bija aicināti Angļu filoloģijas BSP 3. un 4. kursa studenti, lai uzdotu sev interesējošus jautājumus un uzzinātu vairāk par karjeras iespējām pēc programmas absolvēšanas. Tikšanās laikā klātesošie tika iepazīstināti ar uzņēmuma “Printful” darbību, mērķiem un konceptu, lai veicinātu izpratni par prasmēm, kas nepieciešamas, strādājot šādā uzņēmumā, kā arī informētu par uzņēmuma turpmākajiem darbības plāniem un vīziju. “Printful” pārstāves studentiem pastāstīja arī par to, kā aizsākās abu ceļš uzņēmumā, kāda ir bijusi viņu piedzīvotā izaugsme, lielākie sasniegumi un kādi ir abu šī brīža darba pienākumi. Tā kā abas vieslektores pašas ir absolvējušas Angļu filoloģijas studiju programmu, viņas dalījās arī savā pieredzē par to, kā studiju laikā apgūtais ir noderējis līdz šim un kā atspoguļojas darbā “Printful

One of the biggest events for international exchange students of all Northern Europe is the Sea Battle in which exchange students from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia Sweden, Norway and Denmark take part. This is an event on a ferry, where through various activities the exchange students can better integrate within student environment. In the future ESN plans to organise trips to CIS countries such as Belarus and Ukraine. We also organise sports activities – for example paintball tournaments and for the 4 th time we will participate in Nordea Riga marathon and UL Sport’s games. Of course the priorities to participate in these events have the international exchange students, however, there is a number of other events that also Latvian students can take part in – those are thematic evenings and parties when celebrating Halloween, St. Patrick’s day among others. Latvian students won awards at the Nordic-Baltic Physics Olympiad, which took place online on May 6-13. In total, 19 students represented Latvia at the Olympiad. 12th grade students Rolands Lopatko and Viesturs Spūlis from Riga State Gymnasium No.1 won the first place and gold medal. Second place and silver medal were gained by Agata Kuznetsova, 11th grade student at RTU Engineering Secondary School, while 12th graders from Riga State Gymnasium No.1 Edgars Rūdolfs Vītiņš and Artūrs Aizstrauts, RTU Engineering Secondary School 12th grader Jonathan Miks Melgalvis, 11th grader Ralfs Šuba and 10th grader Kristaps Jukša took third place and bronze medals. In the academic year 2010 /2011 eleven students have been granted Scholarships for Young Researchers to promote research in the field of Humanities, Social and Natural sciences at the University of Latvia (UL). As a prerequisite of receiving the scholarship students must excel in studies, actively participate in public life and be motivated to reach new scientific heights. The total amount of the granted scholarships is 16,100 lats. Ernests Felsbergs’ Memorial Scholarship was granted to - Ieva Fībiga (Faculty of Humanities) and Diāna Fogele (Faculty of Humanities). Modris K.Gulbis’ Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Diāna Lozko (Faculty of Theology). LELCL Tomorrow Fund Scholarship was granted to - Elana Jurgena (Faculty of Theology). The University of Latvia offers students the opportunity to start studies in the Dual Award bachelor's study programme in Computer science, which has been developed in cooperation with the University of Lincoln in the United Kingdom. The studies will be conducted in English, and at the end of the studies, graduates will receive degrees from both universities. The Dual Award programme in Computer Science has been developed using both universities' long-term experience to provide students with the knowledge and skills required in the labour market. The content of the bachelor's study programmes in computer science at both universities and the study results to be achieved were carefully compared and evaluated. As a result, students will have the opportunity to acquire the study courses offered by the University of Latvia and acquire study courses offered by the University of Lincoln.
