Students are invited to participate in the virtual Student Deep Science Hackathon

Three-day online hackathon is organized by the Institute of Solid State Physics of the University of Latvia and takes place on October 16-18. Students from any university and study area are invited to participate and work on ideas and solutions in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). Student Deep Science Hackathon is organized since 2018. The event will bring together the most curious students from Latvian universities interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) for already the second time this weekend. Hackathon will be a three-day workshop combined with mentoring sessions and expert support for current students to develop innovative ideas in a virtual environment. Organizers are looking for enthusiasts, engineers, software developers, entrepreneurs, or designers with already formulated ideas as well as those who are ready to work in a team on defined ideas. Students from the University of Latvia should register and re-register in the LU Library using the LU information system (LUIS). The Library invites 1st year students of bachelor and master programs to register in the LUIS. On the first visit to the library, when presenting a student's card to a librarian, the student will receive the user identification number. UL Students Participate in the 7th Study Aid

In 2009, the UL students participated in the 7th Study Aid for the second time. It took place in Latvia from November 5 to December 5. It was possible to participate in the Study Aid by visiting the reading rooms of the UL Library’s Multi-branch Library, Library of Economics, Library of the Humanities, Library of Education and Psychology, and Library of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The 7 th International Study Aid was held throughout the world this year, with the participation of 14 countries from Europe, Africa, and South America. Study Aid is an international project created by the Spanish non-governmental organization “Coopera” and first took place in Logrono, Spain in 2003.Study Aid aims to involve young people
Incoming exchange and local students meet at the "Get Together" event

Each year the University of Latvia (UL) hosts up to 600 incoming exchange students from all over the world for a semester or full academic year. In order to facilitate the incoming exchange students’ integration at the UL and encourage the UL students to take part in the exchange studies abroad, the International Mobility Unit of the UL had organized and event “Get Together” on November 1, 2019 with an aim to gather together future outgoing exchange students with current incoming exchange students of the UL. Students had a great opportunity to share experience and give advice regarding studies and life in Latvia and abroad. They took part in several activities, for example, an active game about stereotypes of various cultures, as well as the workshops on relevant topics related to studies abroad. The following countries were represented in the event – Latvia, Estonia, Germany, Poland, Japan and China. Thank you all for participation!

Orientation Days for the first-year students is the opportunity to get acquainted with the groupmates and professors in a friendly atmosphere. It is also the opportunity to find out more about the academic procedures and study organisation, the Faculty of Humanities, as well as to find answers to your questions by asking not only the administration, but also the senior students who will take part in the activities. Exchange students at the University of Latvia acquire intensive Latvian language course

In August, 16 exchange students from China, Turkey, Germany, Austria, Taiwan, Lithuania and Slovakia began to attend intensive Latvian language course at the University of Latvia (UL). The course provides both an excellent opportunity to learn Latvian language and to get to know Latvian culture and traditions, confirms Ieva Ģerģe, the External Relations Coordinator at the University of Latvia. Exchange students who will start their studies at the University of Latvia at the beginning of the academic year 2017/2018, in August use the opportunity to attend the intensive Latvian language course. To facilitate integration into Latvian society, students are given an opportunity to learn Latvian, achieving A1 level in August. During the semester, they can continue to study for attaining A2 level, whereas in spring semester – B1 level.“Students are keen on learning the state language. 143 Students Graduate from the LU Faculty of Medicine

The Medical Faculty of the University of Latvia has finished its activities for this year, with 143 new doctors, nurses, and pharmacists receiving their diplomas. “Among this year’s graduates are many strong medical professionals who will have to confirm their abilities and the hopes that are pinned on them in the workplace. I’m extremely happy that regardless of the difficult situation, both in the country and the medical system, these new specialists are full of enthusiasm and are not only ready to continue their studies at master’s level, doctoral level and in residence, but are also keen to work in their specialty, investing in the development of the medical field in Latvia.” stressed the dean of the LU MF, Professor Ingrīda Rumba-Rozenfelde. 24 students, including 11 foreigners, graduated from the LU Faculty of Medicine’s second-level professional study programme in Medicine. 32 students graduated from the bachelor’s study programme in pharmacology, and 27 graduated from

Admission for international students is open at the University of Latvia

University of Latvia invites prospective international students to submit applications for studies at the University of Latvia. For academic year 2024/2025 there are 15 bachelor level, 16 master and 15 doctoral level study programmes available. Currently there are more than 1000 foreign students studying at University of Latvia. To complete admission successfully, one has to pay attention to application deadlines, which can vary depending on the country of residence. Full list of study programme offer with admission requirements and all other relevant information. For bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral study programmes, the citizens of non-EU/EEA countries and citizens of visa-free countries must to apply until 20.06.2024, however, if you are an EU and EEA citizen, your application must be submitted until 23.07.2024.
