ActInSpace Hackathon 2020

ActInSpace is a two-day “hackathon” where teams of people from all different backgrounds work together to solve real-life challenges and invent new space solutions together. In a mindset of positive competition, the teams must race against the clock and go as far as possible to design, prototype and deliver concrete results – all before presenting to a distinguished panel of experts. Taking place 13-14 November , ActInSpace is organised by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the French space agency CNES (Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales) – which expect more than 5,000 participants, in over 90 host cities across 50+ countries, for the 2020 edition. As part of its support, Airbus will award prizes for innovation and entrepreneurship. Student groups from at least three FORTHEM universities must be involved in the project and eventually be endorsed by an NGO (contact with local institutions and NGOs can be provided by the local FORTHEM offices on demand). Please find a list of student associations available within FORTHEM. The FORTHEM Alliance supports the winning projects with 500 € / project, but the team is also allowed to apply for compatible funding from other sources. The call will be open again soon, so don’t forget to check back often!

From March 1, new visitation rules related to the spread of Covid-19 will take effect. The Azalea House and the Tropical Butterfly House are available for visit. The following epidemiological precautions should be taken into account when visiting the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia: visit to the outdoor area of ​​greenhouses and gardens is possible without a vaccination or disease certificate; medical masks or FFP2-FFP3 respirators without a valve should be worn indoors. Children under 7 years of age do not need to wear masks or respirators. Children between the ages of 7 and 12 can use non-medical (cloth) masks; keep a distance from other visitors and garden workers. It actually is a comical event – on or trip from St. Petersburg, in the middle of the night while crossing the Latvian – Russian boarder our bus broke down. At first the drivers told us, that we will have to wait just a few hours. That, of course, was the best case scenario, because in fact we had to wait much longer. The exhausted exchange students had to spend their night in a small, tiny room all together. I believe that those students won’t forget this trip themselves. What kind of experience has ESN given you? It is an inevitable experience – first of all those are practical management, planning and organisation skills, and broader view of the representation of student’s interests in the European Commission. At present, it is difficult to judge what the result of the Doctoral Thesis will be, because, while working on new publications within the framework of the Doctoral Thesis, active work on the study of archival documents has continued since the first year. in innovation and entrepreneurial education. It is expected that UC, UL and other interested partners will develop three general modules, therefore creating a common structure, contents, goals, exercises and wrap-up videos for each module. All learning materials will be available to the whole consortium. During Phase 1 the training programme pilot with improved curricula was delivered resulting in 358 trained students (145 initially planned). Students, academics, and non-academics were engaged in exploiting innovative and participative learning methods. Students obtained new knowledge and experience in entrepreneurship through newly created and improved education programmes and on-site experience. In Phase 2, the innovation and entrepreneurial curricula will be developed for the training programme, teaching materials and mentoring scheme for students, academic and non-academic staff. Here are some examples. Academics Conceive a short-term mobility programme for students . The call for projects is open until the 12 th of September 2022 . Conceive and supervise innovative shared tutored projects. You can submit your proposal any time. For more information read this instruction document and contact your local FORTHEM office if needed. Develop virtual mobility in your university, and set up a Team-Teaching action, as part of one of your existing courses, with an alliance colleague.
