On September 22nd the University of Palermo hosted the third edition of the FORTHEM Campus, this time dedicated to the topic of “Diversity and Migration”. The meeting, which took place in the Department of Law, was coordinated by Professor Annalisa Mangiaracina with the aid of Professor Francesco Lo Piccolo, the head of the International Relations Office Valeria Floriano and the FORTHEM Office. During the event, students from the Alliance had the opportunity to introduce themselves, ask questions and share their opinion on the Erasmus + mobility. After receiving a welcome kit, videos introducing FORTHEM were shown in order to set forth what are the general goals and objectives of the project, as well as introducing the University of Palermo. A guide was provided on how to navigate UniPa’s facilities and how to explore the multicultural and vivid environment of the city.

Aizvadītajā sestdienā, 21. oktobrī, viesnīcā “Pullman”, norisinājās Latvijas 2023. gada Studentu čempionāts šahā. Latvijas Universitāti šajā čempionātā pārstāvēja 6 studenti – Rihards Bekasovs, Raivis Kristians Pakalns, Dāvids Pikšis, Daniels Janovskis, Roberts Rēvalds un Roberts Riņķis. Sacensības notika saskaņā ar FIDE ātrā šaha noteikumiem pēc Šveices sistēmas 7 kārtās. Katram dalībniekam apdomas laiks bija 12 minūtes līdz partijas beigām, kā arī + 5 sekundes par katru izdarīto gājienu. Kopumā šajā čempionātā startēja 19 dalībnieki – 6 no Latvijas Universitātes, 9 no Rīgas Tehniskās universitātes, 2 no Rīgas Stradiņa universitātes, 1 no augstskolas “RISEBA” un 1 no Rīgas ekonomikas augstskolas. Mūsu studenti cīnījās godam, bet mazliet pietrūka līdz pjedestālam. Jūlija nogalē Latvijas Universitātes Cietvielu fizikas institūtā (LU CFI) viesojās studenti no Taivānas Nacionālās Sun Jat-sen Universitātes (National Sun Yat-sen University - NSYSU) Materiālzinātņu un optoelektronikas departamenta. Vizītes laikā jauniešiem bija iespēja iepazīt LU CFI, apmeklēt laboratorijas un piedalīties mūsu zinātnieku vadītās lekcijās par aktuālajiem pētījumiem. 20 studenti no Taivānas Latviju apmeklēja akadēmiskās apmaiņas programmas ietvaros, kuras laikā tiem bija iespēja apmeklēt arī LU CFI. NSYSU ir viens no LU CFI sadarbības partneriem, un studentu delegācijas apmeklējums bija viens no šīs sadarbības pasākumiem. Sadarbībai nozīmīgs ir arī valdības atbalsts, tāpēc LU CFI ar prieku uzņēma arī Taipejas misijas Latvijas Republikā pārstāvis Endrjū H. C. Lī (Andrew H. C. Lee), kurš sveica institūta viesus.
