ESI's student innovation program, in cooperation with partners, held the "ESI Sustainability Challenge" student hackathon from March 18th to 26th . High school and university students were invited to create unique ideas to solve various challenges related to energy and waste issues, as offered by program partners "Rimi Baltic," "SEB banka," and "Eco Baltia." The challenge activities were implemented in three phases. On March 18th, an online event for idea and team formation was held. From March 20th to 24th, students could join online mentoring sessions, work in teams, and go on field trips to partners' offices to validate their ideas and understand the challenges. Lastly, during the weekend of March 25th to 26th, students gathered at Rimi Latvia's office in Riga to work on their solutions actively with industry experts and mentors. Šodien, 8.septembrī, Latvijas Universitātē tika aizvadīta Spēka diena, kurā tika noskaidroti spēcīgākie studenti un studentes. Spēka diena norisinājās 3 LU ēkās - Zinātņu mājā, Dabas mājā un LU BVEF. Ikvienam studentam laika posmā no plkst 10.00 līdz 12.30 bija iespēja piedalītes 2 disciplīnās - airēšanā uz trenažiera un lēcienos ar lecamauklu. Katrai disciplīnai tika atvēlēta 1 minūte, kuras laikā dalībniekam bija jānoairē pēc iespējas garāka distance un pēc tam jāveic maksimāli daudz lēcieni ar lecamauklu. Kopumā LU Spēka diena pulcēja vairāk nekā 50 spēcīgus studentus, kuru starpā tika noteikts spēcīgākais students gan vīriešu, gan sieviešu konkurencē. Sieviešu kategorijā uzvarēja un visvairāk punktu ieguva Samanta Zubova. Samanta minūtes laikā noairēja 271m un minūtes laikā uzstādīja rekordlielu lēcienu skaitu - 151 lēciens!Otrajā vietā sieviešu konkurencē ierindojās Gundega Vācere. Gundega noairēja 300m un veica 106 lēcienus ar lecamauklu. Trešo vietu izcīnīja Karīna Kalviša ar

10. un 11. augustā Lielupē norisinājās Latvijas Republikas čempionāts airēšanā, kur piedalījās LU BVEF EBLVS 3.kursa students Kalvis Kazaks. Latvijas čempionāta pirmā diena ar stipru vēju un viļņiem neļāva notikt visiem paredzētajiem dienas braucieniem un tie tika atlikti uz sacensību otro dienu, kura izrādījās rāma. Vieglsvaru vieniniekos mūsu students Kalvis Kazaks pārliecinoši ieguva otro vietu, apsteidzot jelgavnieku Oskaru DERVINU par 1,6 sekundēm. Vīriešu pārairu finālā par Latvijas čempioniem kļuva igauņu komanda, kuri gatavojas startēt Eiropas U-23 čempionātā, bet Kalvis pārī ar G. Sokolovu vieglsvaru divniekā ieguva 3.vietu. Savukārt pārairu četriniekā Kalvis kopā ar komandu kļuva par Latvijas čempionu. Novēlam Kalvim veiksmi Eiropas U-23 čempionātā, kas norināsies Brestā 1.-2.septembrī.

The results of the first pilot study in the Post-Doctoral research project “Relationship between students’ self-management and problem-solving skills and changes in academic achievement during face to face and distance learning situations” (Nr. 1.1.1.2/VIAA/4/20/697) have been published. The aims of the pilot study were to understand what skills and habits help students cope with distance learning and what hinder and cause difficulties for students, to assess students' problem-solving and self-management skills and academic performance indicators for the last three semesters (including pre-COVID-19 assessments). The pilot study was also carried out with the aim to prepare the surveys and methodology for further research within the current post-doctoral project. Institute of Solid State Physics in cooperation with Stockholm School of Economics invites to World Turns Deep Tech, the first networking and matchmaking event between young scientists and students of economics, business, design, law and other specialisations that is organised within project ESI supported by student innovation grants' program. During the event the participants will learn experience stories of deep tech commercialisation, listen to pitches of high-potential early-stage deep tech ideas, as well as network with their authors and developers with an aim to learn more about them and join forces for their commercialisation. Aizvadītajā nedēļas nogalē Parīzē norisinājās Pasaules kausa turnīrs paukošanā ar floreti, kurā Latviju pārstāvēja Latvijas Universitātes students Vitālijs Kuceba. Katru gadu jau no 1953. gada Francijas Paukošanas federācija organizē “The Challenge International de Paris” paukošanas sacensības Parīzē. Šogad sacensībās piedalījās 253 sportistu no 47 valstīm, mūsu students ieguva 58. vietu un iekļuva TOP 64. Vitālija profesionālajā karjerā šis ir augstākais sasniegums. Atgriežoties Latvijā Kuceba atzina, ka ieguva neaizmirstamo pieredzi: “Man bija prieks un lepnums piedalīties sacensībās ar augsta līmeņa paukotājiem. Nākamās sacensības notiks Vācijā, Bonnā.” Novēlām Vitālijam panākumus mācībās un spīdošus sporta sasniegumus!

The International Scientific Conference on Medicine as part of the 79th Scientific Conference of the University of Latvia is takeing place on April 23-24, 2021. The conference covers various disciplines of clinical and research medicine, pharmacy and public health. Researchers of the Institute of Clinical and Preventive Medicine of the University of Latvia and students involved in research work also participate in the conference. Participation in the conference in the spirit of promoting international cooperation is free of charge. Conference events take place online using the Zoom platform. Datorikas fakultātes maģistra studiju programmas students Emīls Sjundjukovs (Emil Syundyukov) ir iekļuvis žurnāla Forbes "30 līdz 30" sarakstā - 30 ieteikmīgāko un veiksmīgāko jauno līderu sarakstā kategorijā "Zinātne un medicīna". Emīls Sjundjukovs ir DF maģistrantūras students, Elektronikas un datorzinātņu institūta zinātniskais asistents, DF studentu pašpārvaldes priekšsēdētājs, Latvijas Universitātes Fonda stipendiāts un Latvijas augstskolu bakalaura un maģistra darbu konkursa ‪"ZIBIT‬" laureāts 2015. gadā.Pagājušā gada rudenī Emīls izveidoja studentu komūnu Health Hackers, savukārt šī gada aprīlī noorganizēja Baltijā pirmo veselības tehnoloģiju hakatonu "Garage48HealthTech".
