The RP’s study programme required a thorough background, therefore prospective students often went to a preparatory school, where they acquired elementary mathematics, zoology, botany, physics, basic mechanics, freehand drawing and drafting. The subjects included Religion, Calligraphy, Gymnastics and languages - German, Russian, English and French. 25. novembrī Baltu filoloģijas maģistrantūras lituānistikas moduļa studenti kopā ar docētājiem Laimuti Balodi un Edmundu Trumpu devās uz Salacgrīvu, lai piedalītos Dainas Avotiņas tulkotās Justina Marcinkeviča dzejoļu izlases "Lidojošās priedes" atvēršanas svētkos. Justins Marcinkevičs mūžībā aizgāja šogad 16.februārī – tieši Lietuvas Valsts atjaunošanas dienā. Līdz šim latviski tulkotas viņa lielās dramatiskās poēmas, bet dzejoļu krājums izdots pirmo reizi. Pasākumā piedalījās dzejnieki Jānis Peters, Jānis Elsbergs (dzejoļu izlases redaktors), Vlads Brazjūns ( Vladas Braziūnas ), Lietuvas Republikas vēstniecības pārstāvji (pasākuma organizētāji), Salacgrīvas novada domes priekšsēdētājs, kā arī daudz citi godājami viesi, Dainas Avotiņas un Justina Marcinkeviča tuvi draugi.

To construct the dual awards, a detailed mapping has been undertaken and approved which shows how the course learning outcomes for Years 1-2 of the three-year University of Lincoln programme are covered by study on Years 1-3 of the four-year University of Latvia programme. For the final year of study at the University of Latvia, students will take the same modules as those delivered in Year 3 (the final year) of the University of Lincoln programme. That will ensure that although the students might study entirely at the University of Latvia, the quality assurance at the point of graduation for the University of Lincoln degree will be easily demonstrated. There will be flexibility for contextualisation of the final year content, and it will be possible to set differentiated assessments if that is considered beneficial (subject to oversight and approval). It was concluded that the teacher must keep up with what the students are interested in, and students must be inspired to learn instead of having to learn mainly because they must achieve certain grades. However, since teachers may face several challenges when it comes to implementing different strategies, cooperation with school leaders, school administration and parents is crucial. From the second part of the study, it was found that it is significant that teachers are not micromanaged, that there is a set curriculum teachers and students can follow. Positive communication and trust in the whole school community is important when it comes setting up students for academic success. Whether teachers can implement different recommendations for keeping the students’ focus depends also on outside factors that depend on the school, therefore, it is important for teachers, school leadership, administration, and parents to all work together. Jean Monnet Chair at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Latvia Holder of the Chair : Daunis Auers, PhD (London), Professor of European Studies Project Title : Examining Europe at the Periphery: The Idea of Europe and the Impact of EU policies on Latvia's regions Project Summary : This Jean Monnet Chair project has two key aims. To promote debate, discussion, and comparison of different conceptions of “Europe” with regional Baltic ideas and thinkers between undergraduate students from different parts of the European Union and the world. This is addressed in the first “European Union I” course that introduces students to usually neglected “Baltic” (largely Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian) conceptions of the idea of “Europe” developed and debated during the national awakenings of the nineteenth century and during the founding of these sovereign states in the decade following the post-First World War, as well as contemporary discussions in the region
