The University of Latvia, founded in 1919, is the largest and most influential higher education institution in Latvia with more than 15’000 students. Located in Riga, the capital of Latvia and the largest city in Baltics, UL is the largest comprehensive university in Latvia with research in natural sciences and technologies, life sciences and medicine, humanities and social sciences. Researcher (m/f/x)
In this context, the university has been successful in getting support for the BioMagnetLink project[1] in a competitive European research funding scheme to establish an ERA-Chair research group. As of 01.03.2025 or as soon as possible, we are seeking you as Researcher (m/f/x) to support the future Head Dr. Damien Faivre and the ERA Chair group (4 doctoral students and an engineer to start):
Your Tasks
- Plan and perform scientific experiments on bacterial taxis/movement and/or microswimmer control/movement
- Evaluate research data and presentation thereof
- Participate in the design and development of custom-design analytical tools used for the characterization of biological and synthetic microswimmers
- Participate in the mentoring of doctoral students
- Write scientific papers and proposals with the support of the ERA Chair
- Present your results in conferences and to a wide public
- Being proactive in contributing to the smooth functioning of the lab
- Collaborate with international partners
Your qualifications
- PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or Microbiology, or equivalent field, interested in interdisciplinary science
- Experience working in a laboratory
- Experience mentoring students
- Hands-on knowledge on data acquisition systems, data evaluation and visualization
- Hands-on-knowledge on scientific paper writing
- Hands-on-knowledge on scientific proposal writing
- Hands-on-knowledge on scientific presentation
- Independent, proactive and structured way of working
- Very good written and spoken English skills are essential (at least B2 level)
- Problem solving skills and a collegial attitude
- Proactivity, rigor, perseverance, reliability and good ability to work in a team
