“Mikrotīkls” (1996) is a Latvian company that manufactures and develops computer network management tools, including software and routers. The company's equipment is distributed worldwide and is used by internet service providers, businesses and individual users.

The company is the developer of MikroTik RouterOS software and the manufacturer of RouterBoard devices. The aim of “MikroTik” is to provide affordable, powerful and easy-to-use computer network management tools to a wide range of users. The customers of “Mikrotīkls” are internet service providers, businesses and individual users who need to provide traffic routing, firewall, VPN, and other management functions over a variety of wired and wireless computer networks. “Mikrotīkls” also aims to support dedicated students of the University of Latvia (LU). The patron has been supporting the University of Latvia since 2011.

In the academic year 2021/2022, Ltd "Mikrotīkls" received many applications for the scholarship. Initially, the scholarship was to be awarded to five University of Latvia students, but seeing the great response and potential of the students, the Ltd “Mikrotīkls” scholarship, administered by the LU Foundation, was awarded to as many as eight students. The total amount of the donation from “Mikrotīkls” is EUR 288 000 for three years.

In the new academic year, eight dedicated students of the University will bear the name of the patron: Helvijs Niedra (Faculty of Biology), Helvijs' research is "Investigation of molecular factors of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours for prediction of their development and effectiveness of therapy", Andris Locāns (Faculty of Computer Science) - his research is "Quantum machine learning algorithms for solving up-to-date problems", Dāvis Zavickis (Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry) is researching "Precise methods for electron structure calculation", Madara Leimane (Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry) is researching "Molecular impurities in silica sol-gel glasses for studying spectral and chemical properties of molecular impurities", Laura Ansone (Faculty of Biology) is studying "Long-term complications of COVID-19 in relation to changes in the serum metabolome and transcriptome of blood cells", Maija Rozenberga (Faculty of Biology) is studying "Determination of composition, stability and origin of the human blood microbiome in healthy individuals and patients with chronic diseases", Kristian Draguna (Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry) is studying "Modelling of whispering gallery microresonators" and Alexey Fedulov (Faculty of Medicine) is studying "Nutrition, digestive balance and sugar level fluctuations in type 1 diabetic patients".
