Dr. Weissova says: “We all live, if we want or not, in the digital Era. Data, that are not available in a digitized form, basically do not exist.” In the lecture Dr. Waissova will answer questions, how does archaeology, a discipline with immense amounts of datasets, all in a way related to each other but not really compatible, approach this issue, what are the main strategies and developments and is archaeology a special case in the digitization process? The present talk offers an outline of the state of the art of the digitization strategies in Europe, general issues and possible solutions.
Assoc. prof. Dr. Šnē will be talking about the achievements of the Latvian archaeology as well as its opportunities and challenges in the present-day’s increasingly digital world.
Dr. Waissova, after her bachelor's and master's studies at Charles University in Prague and a PhD studies at the Free University of Berlin, now is as an Academic Counselor at the Institute for Archaeological Studies at the Ruhr University Bochum. Her research interests include the digitization of archaeological datasets and the implementation of digital archaeology in all stages of archaeological projects.
Dr. Andris Šnē is dealing with a variety of topics in his research including the Viking Age archaeology, social archaeology, history of historiography and heritage management. He is actively publishing about these issues and is also involved in several international research projects. He is also a member of the European Association of Archaeologists and ICOMOS Latvia.
