New UL doctors receive their diplomas at the Degree ceremony

Acting Rector, Professor Gvido Straube emphasised that the new doctors were particularly singled out because their doctorate has been achieved in the year the University celebrated its centenary. G. Straube wished the doctors not to stop at the achievements, to set and pursue new goals and ideas and, above all, to enjoy the great moments of research and to continue working in science.

Ina Druviete, Acting Vice-Rector for Humanities and Educational Sciences, and Social Sciences and Law, in her congratulations to the Doctors of the Century, emphasised that the University of Latvia exists and will continue because of doctors. She wished the doctorate degree recipients to retain fervour while experimenting in the labs, working with students and debating at conferences.

Valdis Segliņš, Vice-Rector for Exact Sciences, Life and Medical Sciences, thanked the doctors for choosing to work for their degree at the UL and indicated that they are the new generation who will carry the name of UL into the world.

A solemn ceremony of doctorate degree awarding is a practice of universities worldwide, and this was the 11^th doctorate degree ceremony held at the University of Latvia.
