The supreme event of the University of Latvia centennial anniversary is the grand concert and ball the Night of the Century “CARPE NOCTEM” to take place on September 27 in Arena Riga. More than 500 UL singers and dancers will share the stage with the best musicians of Latvia – singers and bands favoured by the country.
Everyone who feels belonging to the UL and its values is invited to the celebration. The university will be honoured to share this special moment with current and former UL employees and students, cooperation partners and patrons, guests from all over Latvia and the world, because the Night of the Century a lifetime event!
The concert will be illuminated by the solo stars Aija Vītoliņa, Ance Krauze, Marija Naumova, Daumants Kalniņš, Zigfrīds Muktupāvels and Jānis Aišpurs, with the accompaniment by Kristaps Krievkalns acoustic band. The ensuing ball will sway to the music by Intars Busulis and “Abonementa orķestris”, as well as the band “Labvēlīgais tips”.
The concert will be enriched by performances of the UL graduate choir "Jubilate"; female choirs "Latve", "Balta" and "Minjona"; male choir "Dziedonis" and male vocal ensemble "Dancis"; mixed choirs "Dziesmuvara", "Juventus" and the mixed choir of the UL Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry "Aura"; Presidium Convent Male Choir and chamber choir "DeCoro", as well as the UL Wind Orchestra and early music ensemble "Canto". The stage will be taken by the UL dance ensemble "Pērle" and folk dance collective "Dandari", youth dance collective "Dancītis" and folk dance ensemble "Dancis". A festive performance will be given by the University of Latvia Student Theatre.
The Night of the Century celebration at Arena Riga will be held in two parts: the grand concert will take place from 19:00 to 21:00, and the ball – from 21:30 to 02:00. The event will be hosted by the actor Artūrs Skrastiņš. Tickets are available for purchase either at www.bilesuparadize.lv or the UL main building, Raiņa bulvāris 19, (room 125) and UL House of Science, Jelgavas iela 3. The ticket price – 20 euro, UL student ticket – 10 euro (the UL student ID to be presented at the entrance), seats at the table – 50 euro (price includes a glass of wine and refreshments).
The musical part of the concert is composed to enable the audience to sing along for the entire duration of the concert, as its repertoire will consist of well-known Latvian composers' songs and the most brilliant works of Latvian stage dance, including famous songs like Raimonds Pauls’ “Es nāku no mazas tautas”, “Sasala jūriņa”, “Pilsētas romance” and “Mēmā dziesma”, Zigmārs Liepiņš’ “Zibsnī zvaigznes aiz Daugavas”, as well as many more popular favourites, while at the ball everyone will dance to heart’s content to the songs by Intars Busulis and the band “Labvēlīgais tips”.
