At 11:00 on August 13th, the course of excursions "To the Morberg Summerhouse on Thursdays!“ was officially opened. The excursions will last 10 weeks (up to and including October 22nd), and take place from 14:00 to 18:00.

The idea is to give all those who are interested the opportunity to look around the university’s neo-Gothic pearl in Jurmala – the summerhouse donated to the university in 1928 by its great patron Kristaps Morbergs.

During the ceremonial opening at the summerhouse, the guests were addressed by the chairman of the board of the LU fund, Ivars Lācis; as well as by two Morberg scholarship holders - the political scientist, Ivars Ījabs, and the head of the Marketing Department of the New Riga Theatre, Andra Rutkeviča.

The excursions around the summerhouse will be led by the restoration architect Pēteris Blūms. The restoration work, which was finished in 2008, involved, wherever possible, restoration of all historical objects and interior elements. Pēteris Blūms stressed that "there is no other example of such elegant and sophisticated neo-Gothic wooden architecture in Latvia.“

After regaining national independence, the tradition of paying out K.Mobererg scholarships was renewed in 2001. This year over 300 grants have been allocated. Among the scholarship holders are many young people who are actively involved in the activities of the LU Fund.

The Thursday excursions will be led by K.Morberg scholarship holders in order that they give a small contribution in the praise of their patron and introduce those interested to the history and architecture of the summerhouse.

The entrance fee will be symbolic (each visitor paying what they can) and go to support the 90th anniversary of the University of Latvia.
