On October 27, 2010 the world’s quarter-final competitions of ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM ICPC) took place in Minsk (Belarus) to determine the best teams for the world’s semi-final.

The UL team started successfully, gaining the maximum number of places sufficient for the next level of competition. The fundamental battle of the Baltic States’ universities proved the UL team still the strongest in the region. The best 57 teams from universities of the Baltic States, Belarus and Kaliningrad Region (Russia) started in this competition according to quotas on teams allocated in 2009. After the successful start last year, UL represented by 4 teams was one of the biggest delegations. The first place winner was the team of Belarusian State University. Moreover, Belarusian State University is regarded one of the best team trainers in the field and for many years has ranked at the top ten in the world ratings. Thus, UL teams “Hyperdrive” (Agnis Arins, Arturs Backurs, Krisjanis Prusis) and “unusual” (Martins Frolovs, Jevgenijs Vihrovs, Normunds Vilcins) will compete in semi-finals on November 24 in St. Petersburg. Teams “EGG” (Aigars Eglajs, Anatolijs Gorbunovs, Arturs Znotins) and “KVV” (Madars Virza, Andrejs Vihrovs, Arturs Kadikis) also finished among the best and basically won the place in the semi-final, but unfortunately the semi-final quota is 2 teams from one university.
