On the 29 th of September, this year, a book by Latvian researchers „EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region: A Year After and Beyond" was nominated for the prestigious „Baltic Sea Award”. Its scientific editors are professor Zaneta Ozolina, docents Iveta Reinholde and Toms Rostoks.

The collection of research was issued in 2010 and became the first expert assessment, dedicated to the starting year of the Strategy implementation. The book has originally been supported by the Latvian Foreign Ministry, the European Comission Representation in Latvia and Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Riga. Imants Gross, the director of Nordic Council has supported the book’s nomination.

The book is an interdisciplinary reseach, made by specialists of various fields and the UL teaching staff. It covers the aspects of Strategy management and implementation and some issues of energy sector and employment, as well as investigates the Baltic Sea region cooperation in the European Institutions. The book is aimed at readers interested in the ongoing processes of the Baltic Sea region and the strategy’s potencial impact on it.

 Foreign Minister Girts Valdis Kristovskis sent an official letter to the Secretariat of  the Baltic Development Forum (BDF).

This year the winner of the „Baltic Sea Award” is to be annonced at an official ceremony of the Baltic Development Forum’s summit on the 24 th of October,  in Gdansk, Poland. This is already the fifth awarding ceremony, in the framework of the Baltic Development Forum. The winners are the persons and organisations who have contributed a lot to the development of the Baltic Sea region.
