This year the International Open Access Week will be held through 24th to 30th of October. In support of Open Access movement and celebration of newly created institutional repository of e-resources for University of Latvia a series of events dedicated to free access research will be hosted by University of Latvia Library throughout the week. The main objective of Open Access concept is promotion and support of availability of electronic resources in educational and academic environment.
On the 25th of October a discussion between institutions that have already implemented institutional repositories will be held at the Multidisciplinary library of University of Latvia Library. Specialists from University of Latvia, Riga Technical University and National Library of Latvia will join in an open discussion on promotion of experience exchange and development of cooperation.
The more complex issues of open Access will be inspected on October 26th. A presentation „Open Access to scientific information and Copyright” will resort to copyright and selected aspects of legal relations between author, publisher and fair usage policy. Event will be chaired by the lecturer of Faculty of Law at the University of Latvia Mārcis Krūmiņš.
On the 28th of October an international workshop „The significance of institutional repositories in progression of research and availability of scientific information” will take place at the main building of University of Latvia. The workshop will discuss theoretical and copyright aspects in creation of repositories as well as show notable case study examples. Presenters, amongst selected local specialists, include Service Development Manager of Enlighten - the institutional repository of the University of Glasgow in United Kingdom – William Nixon and the Subject Librarian at Tartu University Library in Estonia Signe Bachmann presenting the cooperation between the Tartu University and the institutional repository, they will join us online.
