The original song selection “Pretējības”, compiled by the University of Latvia radio station NABA (or LR6) will be released at the end of this year. Fifteen of Aspazija’s poems are given a fresh sound by brilliant and original musicians.

Aspazija (born March 16, 1865, deceased November 5, 1943) was a Latvian writer and politician.

The album was created by female musicians and bands from the wild side of the Latvian musical scene: Dana Indāne, “Zāle”, Alise Joste in collaboration with the duet “Čipsis un Dullais”, “Jauno Jāņu Orķestris”, Evija Vēbere in collaboration with the band “Aurora”, “Kuzucuk”, “Biezoknis”, Waterflower (Sabīne Moore), UP, Anna Pluto, “Sus Dungo”, “Stūrī zēvele”, “Nebijušā restauratori”, “Amorālā psihōze” and Helēna Kozlova. The multivocality of Aspazija’s writings is revealed in their songs; the sonorous female vocals encompass her aching personal revelations and her convincingly bold attempts to change the world. The drawings of Alisa Ādamsone are used as the album art.

The musicians will perform a series of three concerts next year, with the final concert on Aspazija’s birthday in the middle of March.

The selection “Pretējības” is published by NABA MUSIC/Melo Records and was inspired by the poet’s 150th birthday. Its release in CD format is co-funded by the Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia. NABA MUSIC/Melo Records was established in 2001 as one of Radio NABA projects, and has since published more than forty recordings, albums, singles, and song selections.  Information on NABA MUSIC recordings can be found at www.naba.lv/nabamusic

Beginning December 21, the album can be purchased at the musical club NABAKLAB, largest Latvian music stores, and at nabamusic.bandcamp.com.
