Lecture will take place in LU FSS 204.auditorium on the second floor. Lecture will be based upon N.Monteiros’ book Theory of Unipolar Politics (2014, Cambridge University Press), in which answers are provided for folllowing questions: First, can unipolar distribution of power in the world can be sustainable? Second, can unipolar world be stable? Third, what foreign policy should USA carry out in an unipolar world? In his book, N.Monteiro concludes that unipolar distribution of power is durable. Thanks to the presence of nuclear weapons, relations between USA and other major global powers can remain stable as long as USA avoids restricting economical growth of other global super-powers. N.Monteiro is a well known scholar of international politics and his works are actively debated in the academic circle. His articles are published in such academic journals as International Security, International Organization, International Theory and Perspectives on Politics. N. Monteiro newest book Nuclear Politics: Strategic Causes of Proliferation (Cambridge University Press, 2016), written together Alexandre Debs, has been praised by many scholars of international politics, among them Stephen Walt, Charles Glaser, Scott Sagan and Robert L. Powell. N.Monteiro guest lecture will be especially informative for students of Political science but it will also be helpful for anyone interested in political power relations and international security.
