International scientific conference ”Past, Present and Future of the Italian studies in the Baltic states and Russia: In honour of Professor Aleksandra Rolova” is organised by the University of Latvia in cooperation with the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Science in order to honour the 90th birthday of the distinguished historian and researcher of the history of the Renaissance period in Italy, Professor Aleksandra Rolova.

She was born in Uglich, Russia, in the family of the famous Jewish physician and had spent many years (1954-1991) in the University of Latvia lecturing and writing articles in different fields of the Italian studies. Professor Rolova made her work during the Soviet time thus her main audience were Russia and she was integral part of the academic community of the Soviet Union. But her name is still influential among the Russian researchers involved in the Italian studies. During the last two decades professor Rolova lives in Aachen, Germany. The conference aims to give the public honour to professor Rolova and her contributions as well as to bring together the students and researchers of the Italian history and culture from the Baltic States and Russia. Conference will take place on 25-27 November, 18:30 at Small Hall in the main building of the University of Latvia. Conference working language – Russian.
