International conference "Gender, Literary Convention and Creativity"

This international interdisciplinary conference takes place as part of the project funded by the Science Council of Latvia, ‘Gender in Philosophy and Literature: Woman’s Contribution to Tradition and Creativity’, and the project ‘Esthetics of Identity’ under the State Programme ‘National Identity’.
To mark the 150th anniversary of the prominent Latvian women writer Anna Brigadere (1861-1933) and the tricentennial of the first Latvian language publication devoted to women, "A String of Spiritual Pearls" (“Garīgu pērļu rota”, Riga, 1711), the Latvian and Baltic Studies Section of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Latvia in association with the Philosophy and Sociology Institute and the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art at the University of Latvia, from 29 September to 1 October 2011, holds an international interdiciplinary conference GENDER, LITERARY CONVENTION AND CREATIVITY.
The conference will have 5 workshops: Workshop 1: A Text for a Woman and a Womans Text during the Age of Baroque and Enlightenment Workshop 2: Anna Brigadere and Her Epoch in Latvian Literature: Woman and National Cultural Identity Workshop 3 Gender, Age, and Traditional Culture Workshop 4 Gender and Sociocultural Context in Contemporary Writing Workshop 5 Feminism and Philosophy: The Art of Life and Life in Art Programme
