On December 6, Rector of the University of Latvia (UL) Marcis Auzins and UL Vice-rector for Research Indrikis Muiznieks participated in the annual conference on the Latvian-Estonian Future Cooperation Report (the Report) in Tartu.

This year’s conference was dedicated to the Latvian-Estonian cooperation in the area of education. The conference participants were addressed by Valdis Dombrovskis, Latvia’s Prime Minister, and Andrus Ansips, Estonia’s Prime Minister, making their opening speeches. Reports on the greatest challenges in promoting the system of education were delivered by Roberts Kilis, Latvia’s Minister of Education and Science, as well as by his Estonian colleague Jaks Avikso. UL Rector Auzins emphasized the importance of cooperation among Latvian and Estonian universities in implementing study programmes. Vice-rector Muiznieks, in his turn, marked the necessity for coordination among university representatives in forming infrastructure development plans. The purpose of the Report is to analyze the present relationship between the two countries as well as to propose recommendations for the future. In 2009, it was decided upon conducting annual conferences dedicated to the elaboration of these recommendations and ideas of cooperation in definite areas. Translated by students of the professional study programme Translator of the University of Latvia.
