
The Declaration emphasizes the major role these three Baltic universities play in the academic and educational life of their respective countries. It also highlights the necessity of closer cooperation in research, study, management and other areas; urging for the improvement of communication and information exchange between the universities.
It is planned to hold regular meetings of the universities’ management in the future. Also, the three universities are to provide consultations, exchange with information and experience in the field of higher education internationalisation, marketing, regional cooperation and research funding. A commission will be set up to implement the commitments stated in the Declaration.
The Declaration also calls for all three Baltic State’s governments to recognize the need to develop at least one internationally-recognized research university. Moreover, attention was drawn to the signing universities’ unique role in preparing a new generation of scientists; thus, ensuring sustainable, science-oriented higher education. The Declaration also urges to take into account the mentioned aspects when drafting the national legislation and finance strategy.
