At the moment, the UL is known for its research in the field of Lettonics, Material Science, Information and Communication Technologies, Process Modelling, Social and Economic, Environmental, and Health Problems of Countries in Transition. Scientific research is conducted in more than 35 fields representing four main science blocks: Humanities, Biology, Social Sciences, and Education. However, to even more strengthen the UL’s scientific potential and competitiveness on the international level, sufficient financing is necessary.
Therefore, the Project will ensure the growth of the UL potential, development of new international cooperation projects, participation in international scientific congresses and conferences; thus, promoting the identification of the UL scientific activities within the EU and in the world and contributing to Latvia’s competitiveness in the international science, research and development sphere, as well as to the country’s economic development and competitiveness. Moreover, support will be also provided to achieve the UL strategic objective i.e. development of Scientific University.
Within the Project all the UL fields, including Humanities and Social Sciences, will be developed and sustained. The synergy of inter-fields will also promote effectiveness and quality of scientific processes.
In addition, 31 international cooperation research project applications are to be drafted, a single electronic site containing information about the UL research activities established, 115 international conferences attended, 117 scientific publications prepared, and 16 international scientific conferences organised in Latvia.
The total eligible costs of the Project are LVL 487,606.
