According to the competition procedure, in five working days’ time, the jury will invite all participants to the meeting where all prize-winners will be named and then invited by theTender Committee to submit their proposals for further negotiations on the Natural and Life Sciences Academic Center conceptual design development.
During the meeting the Committee will assess the applications for compliance with the qualifying requirements, and then call the selected candidates for technical and financial proposals. The main evaluation criteria will include costs and quality - the applicant's technical proposal should comply with the functional and architectural, artistic, and energy efficiency requirements set to a modern institution of higher education in natural sciences, considering the world’s best examples.

The Natural and Life Sciences Academic Center of 15,030 square meters will accommodate chemistry, biology, geography, earth sciences, and medical studies departments, science library reading room, and administration buildings, as well as recreation areas.
As reported, the University of Latvia intends to establish in Tornakalns a modern infrastructure with about 10 buildings and a total area of 120,000 square meters till 2023. The first phase of the project - Natural and Life Sciences Academic Center – is expected to be completed by September 30, 2014. Estimated total project costs are LVL 22,736,757, of which LVL 19,326,244 are European Regional Development Fund financing, and LVL 1,630,225 – are state financing and LVL 1,780,288 - Latvian University funding.
