International students from 18 countries will participate in the first summer school on the identity of Riga, organized by the Faculty of Social Science of University of Latvia this August. During the summer school, students will produce original short videos about the capital of Latvia, its people, culture, neighborhoods and architecture.

The Riga Summer School received 70 applications from journalism, public relations, film studies and anthropology students from more than 20 countries all over the world. 21 students were selected for participation in the summer school program, which will feature lectures and workshops, as well as an opportunity for each participant to produce a short video about Riga. Participants represent various European Union countries, as well as Russia, Ukraine, Hong-Kong, Australia and South Korea.  The organizers of the Riga Summer School are encouraging young people from Latvia to get involved into this project by offering their video take on Riga. They are invited to share their videos on the summer school’s Facebook page “Riga Summer School! Find. Feel. Film.” The producer of the best video will earn a chance to participate in the summer school program together with foreign participants. The Riga Summer School, organized by the University of Latvia Social Sciences Faculty’s Department of Communication Studies in cooperation with the Latvian Academy of Culture, Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia, Live Riga and other friends and partners, is a part of Latvian National Identity Project. It will take place in Riga, Latvia, from August 14 through August 20, 2011. The Riga Summer School website online is sites.google.com/site/rigasummerschool/.
