Thereby she has met the London Olympic A qualifying standard of 6,150 points and joined the list of UL track-and-field athletes going to the Olympic Games in London, which already includes FEPA students Dmitrijs Jurkevics (Dmitrijs Jurkevičs) (1,500-metre run), Zigismunds Sirmais (javelin throw) and Aiga Grabuste (heptathlon).
The first day of Hypo Meeting brought Laura a series of fine achievements: a new personal record of 13.90 seconds in 100-metre hurdles followed by a repeated personal best in high jump – 1.82 metres. By the end of the day two more personal records came with a 12.67-metre throw in shot put and a quick 24.43 seconds in 200-metre sprint. On the second day, Laura earned another personal best in 800-metre run with 2:13.68, as well as jumped 6.09 metres in the long jump event and threw the javelin a distance of 49.56 metres.
Laura’s general result of the competition is 6,282 points, 11th place and the Olympic A standard. Currently, her result is 13th world-best and 10th best in Europe.
In conclusion, the outstanding achievements of Zigismunds Sirmais and Dmitrijs Jurkevics shown at the Estonian “Kuldliiga” competition on May 29 must be mentioned. Dmitrijs came first in the 1,500-metre run at 3 minutes and 43.40 seconds, while Zigismunds won first place in the javelin throw at 84.06 metres, which is currently 8th world-best result.
