Tuition fee per year (ac. year 2025/26): 2600 EUR for EU/EEA/Swiss citizens, permanent residence permit holders and their family members. 3900 EUR for citizens of other countries

The aim of the programme is to provide the set of knowledge, skills and competence necessary in the science of history and archaeology in accordance with the 7th level of Latvian Qualifications Framework in compliance with the Classification of the Latvian Education, preparing independently and critically thinking, highly competent historians and archaeologists capable of flexible integration into the changing scientific and professional environment, successfully and independently solving research problems and professional challenges.

Mandatory Study Courses: Academic Writing and Publication Skills in History, Cultural Theory and Practices, The Research Issues of History and Archaeology of Latvia, Theory of history and social theory.
Students have a wide range of choices, completing up to 50 percent of their programme from a large selection of elective courses and choosing a Master's thesis on a wide range of topics.
History programmes are characterised by their versatility and breadth of knowledge.
Graduates of the Master's degree programmes in History work in various fields, including higher education and research institutes, archives, museums, and public administration, for example, in the field of foreign policy and defence or cultural heritage. Many historians work in the media.
A Master of Humanities degree will qualify you to pursue doctoral studies in Latvia and abroad.
UL full-time students, regardless of their citizenship, have the opportunity to apply for the ERASMUS + exchange program for studies or/and traineeship.
