The objective of the “Sport, Technology and Public Health” study programme is to provide students with the possibility of obtaining academic university education in sports and related sciences by promoting the acquisition of knowledge and skills that lead to the development of competencies for research and professional activities in sports and related sciences in the context of technological development and public health.

The programme offers cross-disciplinary sports science studies consisting of three topical blocks: (1) Sport study courses providing basic and specialised expertise in the sports sector; (2) technology study courses and transversal topics related to the use of technology in sports research, the sports industry, collecting and analysing data on everyday sports activities; (3) courses in public health studies and transversal topics focusing on socio-economic aspects that have an impact on the quality of life, athletic achievements and health of society in a wider context.

Graduates can work in sport education institutions and organisations at international, national, and local levels; be employed as data analysts in sports and physical capacity detection laboratories, health centres carrying out load tests and related measurements; in the fields of public health, sports administration and politics, as sports coordinators, planners; as consultants in prevention centres, gerontology centres, municipal and national sports administrations; and as technical analysts in the counselling, development and planning of individual and team training programmes (video stripping technologies, editing digital video, various technologies for measuring.)

Secondary education

Admission criteria for persons who have acquired secondary education after 2004:

  • CE in Latvian *
  • CE in English, French, German, Russian *
  • CE in Mathematics *
  • Grade Point Average (GPA) of all the centralised exams*

*The following coefficients are applied to ensure the mutual comparability of the results of the CE:

  • for exams at the optimum level of learning, a coefficient of 0.75 is applied, to compare to the advanced level;
  • a coefficient of 0,50 shall be applied to exams at the general level
  • the results of the centralised examinations obtained before 2022 shall be aligned with the examinations of the optimum level of learning and shall be assigned a coefficient of 0.75.

For individuals who had acquired secondary education before 2008, the centralised examination in Math may be replaced by an final grade in Math (or the average grade in algebra and geometry) in the certificate of secondary education.

Competition criteria for persons who have obtained secondary education up to 2004 (not including), as well as for persons who have obtained secondary education abroad and persons who have been exempted from the CE arrangement:

  • GPA in Latvian and literature
  • Final grade in English, French, German, or Russian
  • GPA in compulsory subjects
