Aim of the study programme is to prepare highly qualified and competitive Bachelor of Humanities level Latvian studies specialists for the labour market, providing the opportunity to study Latvian language and literature, as well as basic cultural issues in a broader – Baltic and European cultural context, to develop, study, preserve and pass on to future generations all that is special about the Latvian people - national culture, art, language, literature, folklore, traditions - with the specificity of its geographical and historical environment, which has been and can be brought to world culture and science.
Objectives of the study programme are:
- to acquire an understanding of the most important patterns of the Latvian language, literature and culture, as well as an integration of theoretical knowledge, practical and research skills that would be essential for a successfulprofessional career in a wide range of employment in the local and international labour market;
- to develop a high level of Latvian language competence, as well as to acquire and consolidate knowledge of other languages relevant to the linguistic and cultural contexts of Latvian studies (languages of the Baltic region, Classical languages, major languages of cultural exchanges);
- to develop independent and critical thinking and creativity, analytical and research skills.

Var tiekties uz svešvalodu reģioniem, un tas nebūt nav peļami, bet piedāvāju pievērst uzmanību tieši mūsu novadiem, kurus senāk, kā arī šodien apdzīvo inteliģenti savas valodas pārstāvji, kopēji un izzinātāji. Šī programma ir veids, kā trīs gados izgaismoti sakārtot savā galvā izpratni par vēsturi (un ne tikai latviešu), zināšanas par nozīmīgiem cilvēkiem sev apkārt (un ne tikai sev apkārt). Visbeidzot nostiprināt pārliecību, kas tad ir tas, ko no visā plašā iespēju klāsta es vēlos. Varbūt tā ir daiļa daiļliteratūra, varbūt valodiska valodniecība vai tautiska folkloristika? Un pats labākais, nav jāgaida tie trīs gadi, lai pieietu pie piesmeltas laivas un domātu, ko ar to visu tagad darīt. Jēdzīgas zināšanas var smelt arī ar maziem, viegliem spainīšiem, pat krūzītēm, lēni un pakāpeniski, semestri no semestra, priekšmetu no priekšmeta, lekciju no lekcijas.
