First-cycle professional higher education study programme "Teacher"

First-cycle professional higher education study programme "Teacher" is part of work environment based studies "Macītspēks". The programme is licensed on May 15, 2020.

The aim of the study programme is to provide an opportunity for students with a bachelor's or master's degree in a field of science (or a similar field in higher education) that is not pedagogy, but corresponds to the field of study, to develop the competence necessary for pedagogical activities and to obtain a teacher's qualification one of the modules (technology, science, cultural awareness and self-expression in the arts, mathematics, social and civic, language, health and physical activity) to perform professional pedagogical activity in one of the levels and types of education.

Director of the study program:

According to the acquired qualification of a teacher, graduates of the programme can work in public and private schools, interest education institutions, music and art schools, sports schools.

2 semesters (1 year), 60 ECTS, Studies in summer (two weeks); from September to December classes will take place on Fridays. The rest of the time - in the work environment.  
Only budget places.
For admission in the autumn semester 2025./2026. - 100 budget places.
Teacher qualification

 Previous education:

  1. First cycle higher education  or second cycle higher education (second cycle post-secondary professional higher education or Master's degree) in a relevant scientific field of the chosen field of study.

  2. First cycle higher education (Bachelor's degree or second cycle professional higher education (or equivalent higher education)) or second cycle higher education (second cycle professional higher education to be completed after secondary education or Master's degree) and study courses relevant to the field of study within the study programme, amounting to 18 ECTS. 

  3. First cycle higher education (Bachelor's degree or second cycle professional higher education (or equivalent)) or second cycle higher education (post-secondary professional higher education or Master's degree) in a field not relevant to the field of study, but completed study courses relevant to the field of study within the study programme, amounting to 12 - 17 ECTS and a 'Very good', 'Excellent' or 'Outstanding' (8-10 marks) in the performance test or university entrance examination in the chosen field of study

Student selection

After evaluation of previous education, student selection happens in two parts:

  1. writing part - electronic questionnair;
  2. speaking part - remote interview.
