ACADEMIC ROWING TRAINING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LATVIA
In rowing classes, students will be offered to learn and develop their skills in academic rowing. Rowing is particularly popular with the world's leading universities and is a great honour to represent his university in competitions. It is the legendary Cambridge and Oxford student team competition on the Thames that is the first association to come to mind for anyone imagining academic rowing. Maybe it's you who will be in the team team at the University of Latvia?!
Rowing is a sport historically practised by students and lecturers of the University of Latvia. It is Zorzs Tikmers, President of the Latvian Olympic Committee, who is the Olympic vice-champion and graduate of the University of Latvia. This year, rowing sports returns to LU! Students will be introduced to rowing equipment, technique, boat classrooms, training lesson schedule, etc.

Thanks to the invention of an ergometer (rowing trainer), rowing can be done both in winter and summer. During the winter season, students will have the opportunity to strengthen general fitness, paddle on a sports trainer, develop technique, but by summer we will be on the water in real rowing sports boats. The highly qualified rowing sports coaches are outspoken athletes and enthusiasts of their field, which will give you more fun trying out this beautiful and athletic sport. Try rowing and it will be an unprecedented experience for you!

Academic rowing was and continues to be a great all-body activity, offering amazing fitness, team-building and a great time in nature. Take an early morning ride and you'll experience a truly meditative feel and harmony. Challenge yourself with winds and waves and you'll feel an influx of energy and a dose of adrenaline!
Fitness
Improving fitness is one of the key benefits of rowing. Rowing is a shared body workout using all of the body's key muscle groups (arms, legs, back and abdomen), making rowing an outstanding aerobic exercise and endurance. Rowing is a unique sport that employs 80 per cent of all body muscle groups. Not for nothing all the Airetaji have athletic and beautiful bodies!
Daily stress relief
You often experience high stress in your studies. Rowing is a great way to relieve learning stress by doing a full body workout. You will feel the release of endorphin! When you paddle, you are greeted with a meditative and calming effect while fresh air fills your lungs.
Rehabilitation/strengthening
Rowing has little effect on joints. If you are recovering from an injury, rowing provides excellent cardiovascular and muscle toning training, including strengthening back muscles, with minimal impact on weight-bearing joints. You will strengthen your posture but not damage your joints
Socialising
Rowing is the perfect thing to do – you can enjoy solo activities, relax and train on your own. You can join others too - a great way to build a lifelong friendship with your study mates, how to be with your friends. As a team sport, rowing provides a great way for its members to learn how to move in harmony and in the same rhythm as their teammates.
Versatility regardless of weather
Rowing is a great way to enjoy nature, boats provide an opportunity to paddle in all sorts of weather and water conditions. However, if the weather becomes really unpleasant, you can always improve your rowing technique at the high school gym using a rowing ergometer.
Sport for life!
Rowing has a cyclical sport and can be enjoyed at any age throughout life. Maybe it's you who will invite your study mates to a college rally in rowing boats after graduating!
