Digital Tools for Literary and Cultural Studies
Course
The aim of the course is to provide both theoretical and practical knowledge about the use of various digital tools and methods in research in the humanities and social sciences, especially in text analysis. Tasks of the study course: 1. to expand students' knowledge of the importance of technology in modern society, culture, and research; 2. to provide an overview of the digital humanities and the new research direction they provide; 3. to discover the opportunities and benefits of an interdisciplinary research approach; 4. to acquaint with the technologies and principles of the semantic web and related data, allowing them to be used in research; 5. to introduce the possibilities of using digital tools and methods in research, paying special attention to text analysis tools; 6. to promote skills to use language material, text and cultural data in creating, retrieving and analyzing corpora of different types and volumes. The language of instruction is Latvian.

Contrastive studies II: Swedish (2nd foreign language from the beginner's level)
Course
The aim of the course is to develop students’ knowledge, communicative skills and competence in accordance with A1/ A2 level complying with the Common European Framework for Rerefence. The objectives of the course are 1. to extend the knowledge about the sound system of the Swedish language in a contrastive aspect; 2. to introduce the basic principles of morphology and sentence structure; 3. to strengthen the skill to apply simple grammatical constructions, analyse own and peers’ mistakes and continue developing the vocabulary range; 4. to strengthen the skill to understand a slow spoken text regarding personal topics and situations; 5. to develop the communicative language competence of the Swedish language and strengthen the skill to answer simple questions, name and shortly describe familiar objects, phenomena, people, actions, briefly express attitude. The course is delivered in: Swedish (with explanations in Latvian and English).

Microbiology and oral microbiology
Course
Course objectives: 1)To provide students with basic knowledge about the most important pathogenic micro-organisms and viruses - initiators of human infectious diseases, their sources, transmission pathways, properties, pathogenesis of diseases caused, clinical picture, laboratory diagnostics, prevention, therapy. 2)To provide knowledge of the microbiological ecology of a healthy oral cavity. Course tasks: 1) to acquire theoretical knowledge of infectious agents; 2) acquire practical skills in laboratory diagnostics, 3) explore the principles of biofilm, dysbiosis of the oral ecosystem, 4) to acquire a microbiological and immunological basis for the development of caries, pulpitis, apical periodontitis and periodontal diseases; 5) analyse the role of opportunistic pathogens in the case of oral infection, 6) look at the cross-infection process and the principles of infection control in dentistry. The course is implemented in English.

Course
During the course, attention will be paid to the duality of the social work profession and the various challenges in today's reality. The aim of the course is to expand students' understanding and awareness of the challenges of professional social work in working with individuals, groups and communities, as well as in the development of the social worker's personality. The tasks of the course are: 1) to pay attention to the duality of the social work profession and various challenges in modern reality; 2) the shadow sides of social work; 3) risks of professional development and growth opportunities in the conditions of a changing society (business approach in the field of social work, Internet and communication technologies in social work, critical practice, good practice approaches, variable and constant in social work, etc.); 4) opportunities for social work in solving social problems in the context of institutional change. The course is lead in Latvian.

Mathematics for Particle Physics

The study course aims to acquaint with the mathematical foundations of high energy physics to promote understanding of particle physics's mathematical needs and prepare students for the study program courses - "Introduction to Particle Physics" and "Particle Physics Theory." The tasks of the study course are: 1. To acquaint with four general mathematics topics: special relativity, symmetries and groups of symmetries, complex analysis basics, and selected topics in special functions. 2. To acquaint with the type of mathematical analysis, the examples and application of physics are emphasized over general mathematical analysis and proofs. 3. To introduce group and group theory through spatial and rotational transformations, Lorenz transformations, isospin, and color charge; application of analytical function properties to particle scattering amplitudes. Cultural history of Estonia
Course
The course on cultural history of Estonia gives an overview of Estonia´s most important historical periods from the perspective of different aspects of culture. In addition, students get to know folk culture and the key features of contemporary culture. The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the stages of development of Estonian cultural history, the most important events and personalities. The objectives of the course are: 1) to introduce the most significant historical periods in the territory of Estonia from antiquity to the present day; 2) to acquaint with the most important events and outstanding persons in the history of Estonian culture; 3) to acquaint with the folk culture and traditions of the traditional cultural regions of Estonia; 4) to introduce the dialects of Estonian traditional cultural regions, 5) to acquaint with the modern cultural life of Estonia.
Languages of instruction are Estonian and/or Latvian.

Tasks - to understand the importance of assessment in sports education and sports science. - to implement theoretical achievements into practice. - to gain skills in assessing a person’s data (motor, somatic and functional) analysis. - to take into consideration the successive steps for assessment, to evaluate the results, to plan the development. - to use prior tests for motivating athletes to improve their personal skills for higher performance; to motivate students to develop a good posture for healthy daily life; to motivate sedentary lifestyle persons to gradually start more active lifestyle. - to implement collected data into research work; to follow ethical standards when performing a person’s assessment. The course is conducted in English language.

The goal of the course is to provide students with the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding in the field of literary studies by looking in depth at the interaction of Anglophone history, culture, literature and visual narratives of authors belonging to different nations, thus providing a basis for further research in the field. Tasks of the study course: 1. To promote the acquisition of the methodology of literary studies and the necessary empirical research methodology in the fields of Anglophone literature and culture; 2. To introduce the characteristic tendencies in the works of Anglophone authors belonging to different nations and cultures; 3. To facilitate the transfer of theoretical knowledge into practice by analyzing literary works belonging to different cultures and understanding the role of the interaction of different cultures in the creation of these works; 4. To enhance the ability to critically evaluate the reflection of historical and cultural processes
