Course
The aim of the course is to enable students to develop an understanding of the essence, specifics, basic issues of history and theory of children's and youth literature and the role of literature in the process of personal development. The objectives of the study course 1. To improve the understanding of the value system, problems, types, genres (literary fairy tales, fantasy, science fiction), artistic system, tendencies of Latvian and foreign children's and youth literature classics and the most brilliant works of contemporary writers. 2. To develop skills for analyzing and evaluating the content, form, relevance to the age of the reader, illustrations and design of literary works. 3. To see and learn to evaluate opportunities, problems and their solutions related to the study of children's literature at school.
The language of instruction is Latvian.

Course
In the course students will learn the main basic concepts, the main pedagogical regularities and basic principles in educational sciences and their sub-sectors. The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge, skills and competencies necessary for successful master's studies in educational sciences. Tasks - 1. To master the basic concepts used in educational sciences, to understand the main pedagogical regularities and basic principles; 2. To improve academic reading and writing skills; 3. To improve communicative skills in the academic environment; 4. To improve the competence to act ethically and responsibly in the academic environment; 5. To create an opportunity to reflect on one's learning process and achieved results, directing the further development of one's knowledge, skills and competences.

Advanced criminal procedure
Course
The study course is dedicated to the in-depth study of Latvian criminal procedure law. The aim of the course is to deepen students' understanding of the theoretical aspects of the criminal process as a branch of law and science, the concepts included in the criminal process and its practical course, preparing them for full-fledged work as a lawyer in the field of criminal law. Course tasks: 1. to ensure the acquisition of in-depth knowledge about the theoretical perspective on the understanding of the criminal process, its structure and its course; 2. to ensure the acquisition of in-depth knowledge about the legal regulation of criminal proceedings in Latvia; 3.. to develop practical skills for strengthening the acquired theoretical knowledge and using it in simulated situations. Course
Publication is the most important review of performed scientific research. For sucessful defence of thesis research should be presented at least in three peer reviewed papers. The aim of the course is to publish a scientific article on the topic of the dissertation. The tasks of the course are to improve the doctoral student's skills to substantiate, interpret and publish the results obtained in the research, based on their own and other people's experience in the chosen field of health care. Writing a paper includes all the parts of scientific research starting with formulation of hypothesis and objectives of research and finalizing with conclusions, based on results of performed research. Writing a paper gives an insight into main priciples of scientific research and learns how research data have to be correctly interpreted. The course is designed in Latvian and English.

Course
The aim of the course is to enhance student’s speaking skills and the acquisition of the Colloquial Persian (Farsi) language speaking about everyday topics, getting acquainted and courtesy rituals and decent conversation topics, to introduce Persian culture and literature. The objectives of the course: 1) continue the acquisition of the phonetics, grammar and lexical basis of the Colloquial Persian language. 2) facilitate the acquisition of vocabulary and phrases necessary for everyday communication in the Colloquial Persian (Farsi) language (on the covered topics). 3) continue acquisition of polite communication rules in the Iranian culture; 4) to introduce the biography and works of the most popular Persian poets; 5) to introduce the humour in the Persian culture. Language of instruction is English, Persian (Farsi), and Latvian.

The mind-body problem in 20th century philosophy
Course
The aim of the course is to introduce students to one of the perplexing problems of contemporary philosophy. Although the question of to what extent mental qualities of living beings depend on physical ones is consedered to be one of the "eternal" questions of philosophy, recently this question has become a subject of particular interest among philosophers, scientists and even general audience. Most likely one of the reasons for such a popularity is the development of neural sciences in the last couple of decades. The aim of the course is to show the difficulties that are encountered both by those who try to reduce mental phenomena to physical ones and those who argue that such a reduction is impossible. The material of the course is based on the discussions that are characteristic in the so called Anglo-American tradition of contemporarty philosophy.

The aim of the study course is to learn the basics of mathematics, which allows to describe both the model of the eye and the light flows through the surface of the eye. The main researched or analysed objects of mathematical analysis are functions. The course covers the following core themes: real number, differential calculus, and integral calculus.

The objectives of the study course are following:

  • to introduce students with the above-mentioned topics;
  • to introduce with topics, which are oriented to the ability to read modern scientific literature in optometry using mathematics technique.

Veterinary medicines are a separate group of medicines that can be distributed in special veterinary pharmacies or in community pharmacies together with other medicines. Often, veterinary products do not differ from human medicines in terms of the active substances, but the dosage and packaging of the drugs are different. In order to trade veterinary medicinal products, the distributor must have a license for the distribution of veterinary medicinal products and the veterinary medicinal product must be registered. The most veterinary medicines are prescription medicines. The aim of the course is to introduce students to the rules of registration, marketing of veterinary medicines and their pharmacological effects. The tasks of the course are to characterize the most popular veterinary drugs, their indications, use and to compare the effects of medicines on different animal species. The language of the instruction is Latvian.

"Computer networks I and insight into industry" course is based on Cisco “CCNA Routing and Switching: Introduction to Networks” course. It is the first of the four courses leading to the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. The goal of the course is to introduce students to the networking field. The tasks of the course are to teach network terminology, classification and protocols, local-area networks (LANs), Open System Interconnection (OSI) models, cabling, cabling tools, routers and routing, Ethernet, Internet Protocol (IP) addressing, and network standards. In addition to the CCNA topics the course covers basic terminology and principles of operation of wireless networks, IT security and Internet of Things. The course includes a theoretical and practical exam. The language of instruction is Latvian.
