Research work 3 – Empirical research and novelty 2
Course
The study course is implemented in the 5th and 6th semesters of the 3nd study year, taking into account the knowledge, skills and competencies acquired in other study courses and independently conducting research work for the doctoral thesis, particularly focusing on one`s empirical research and novelty, approbation of the research results by participating in a colloquium, seminar, conference and preparing a scientific article, as well as ensuring the transfer of knowledge in pedagogical work. The study course is implemented with students being practically employed (permanently or internship) in a company or organization. Within the course, its participants also participate in the activities of the doctoral school of the University of Latvia or other equivalent scientific institution, where valuable experience is shared with colleagues (in the form of colloquia), allowing students to present research, share and identify other researchers' experience in an informal environment

Step 4: Accomodation

Student Services assist international students in finding accommodation, if the students would like a place in the University residence halls. Students should apply for residence halls as soon as they have received the acceptance letter. Places in residence halls are limited, and finding alternative housing will take time. Property Law
Course
In the Property Law course of the Civil Law studies, the students must gain knowledge on the classification of property, possession, property rights, and the rights of non-owners (servitudes, real charge, pledge, redemption rights, building rights). In studying this part of the Civil Law, the students must familiarise with part three of the Civil Law – Property Law, Commercial Pledge Law, Land Registry Law. Preferable preliminary knowledge: General Civil Law, Law of Obligations, Civil Procedure.

Seminars and workshops that will enable students to work effectively in solving real business challenges, thus improving their problem solving skills and ability to work in a team. Within the framework of the activity, students will be offered internships in one of the partner companies, which will provide an opportunity to solve real problem situations in various industry companies, where they will be monitored and supervised by experts, who will involve them and assign on joint tasks with the employees of the company, thus ensuring that the internship has added value and students will develop the innovation necessary for the development of the national economy. Within the framework of the Student Innovation Programme it is planned to realize this activity in 2 companies. Students will receive scholarships. Students’ mobility will be ensured if necessary.

Research Work 1 – Theory 2
Course
The study course is implemented in the 1st and 2nd semesters of the 1st study year. The peculiarity of the course goes in line with the best international higher (doctoral level) education and research practice, giving students the opportunity to focus on the progress and deepening of doctoral research already in the 1st year of study, at the same time ensuring regular discussion of research structure, progress, plans, problems, results and perspective with scientific supervisors, consultants, colleagues, experts. This approach allows for the effective application of the so-called `initial inertia` (at the very beginning of studies immediately after the development of the doctoral thesis application), which uses the inner drive and strengthens the personal interest of young researchers both in general scientific research and in their research topics.
