The aim of the course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of international environmental law. The course starts with a general discourse on the functions of law and how can law be employed to address global and regional environmental problems. A special emphasis is placed the relationship of environmental law and environmental ethics. Then students learn basics on sources of international law and explore how these sources apply to the protection of environment. This general introduction is followed by a more detailed analysis of particular areas such as climate change, biodiversity, water law, high seas fisheries, state responsibility and other topical issues. The emphasis in this course is placed on interactive study methods e.g., active student engagement via teamwork, discussions and student presentations.

The goal of the course is to enhance students’ understanding about the use of the specialist English language in the areas of business, banking and finance.
To reach the goal, the main tasks of the study course are:
1) to provide insights into the nature of the domains-related English language,
2) to initiate the students into the use of the professional language applied in relevant professional contexts, thus ensuring acquisition of the professional English language,
3) to advance the acquisition of the integrated practical and research skills which would promote the students’ competitiveness in the domestic and/or international job market setting,
4) to develop independent and critical thinking, creativity and team working skills, thus contributing to the students’ participation in advancing the quality of their education.

The doctoral study program "Natural Sciences: Chemistry" ensures the acquisition of scientific qualifications in the subfields of biological science. The aim of the study program is to prepare highly qualified specialists in one of the sub-branches of chemistry, giving doctoral students in-depth knowledge and skills necessary for independent academic and scientific-research work. The aim of the course is to enable students to practically use scientific knowledge in the creation of practically useful innovations and technologies, and to provide basic knowledge and skills for their implementation.
Tasks of the course are:
1. To raise awareness of the importance of science and innovation in society and the skills needed for their successful implementation;
2. To learn several creative thinking and idea generation methods, as well as to practice their application in science and business;
3. To get acquainted with the business model development methodology and process, to master the formulation of a business idea about the business model process, its evaluation;
4. To learn simple methods of financial evaluation of a company or project, preparation and attraction of a finances and investments;
5. To acquire presentation skills, teamwork skills.
Languages of instruction are Latvian and English.
The purpose of this course is to offers students more in-depth knowledge about administrative law, focusing on practical or theoretical issues that are not clear, as well as on issues which relate to newly adopted normative regulations or legal norms which have not been reviewed in the BA programme. Lectures are discussions about timely issues, reviewing that which is already known and then continuing on with a more in-depth look at the relevant issues. Case files and court practice will be brought to bear whenever possible, thus deepening the understanding of students about specific aspects of administrative law and administrative procedure.
