Foundations of Cultural Studies for German Literature Students
Course
The course aims to introduce the students to the fundamentals of cultural studies. Course task is to offer lectures on the main theories and trends (with special emphasis on those originating in Germany), which will allow students to acquire theoretical knowledge and develop necessary transferable research skills and abilities. Considerable attention is paid to students' independent work, including work with theory sources as well as the analysis and interpretation of the latter. The course is taught in German.

Students’ Self-Government is an institution elected by students. Self-Government's activities are characterized by two main directions: first, its task is to represent the interests of students in the administrative structures of the University of Latvia; secondly, it actively takes care of the development of the academic, social and cultural environment according to students’ interests. The range of issues that is responsibility of Students’ Self-Government is extremely wide and varied. Stepping into a student's shoes

The event is intended for high school students. During the event, they have one day to "stepinto a student's shoes" and participate in the study process of the University of Latvia. It is an opportunity to participate in lectures, seminars, laboratory and practical work, as well as to get acquainted with the University’s study programmes, their content and study process, which would help to make a motivated decision in choosing further education. In order to successfully adapt to the study environment later, students will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the skills and abilities necessary for the study process, as well as lecturers, faculty libraries and other study rooms during the event. Participation in this event also means getting acquainted with other important aspects of students' lives, such as living in service hotels, activities in self-governments and amateur groups, as well as other various activities that a student will be able to talk about from his/her point

Head and neck anatomy for dental students
Course
The course includes sections of head and neck anatomy, topography and embryology. The purpose of the anatomical section is to create a modern state-of-the-art picture of the structure of the bones and joints, muscles, fascias, digestive and respiratory proximal parts of the human head and neck. As part of the course, students learn the blood supply of the head and neck, venous and lymphatic system, as well as inerration. In the process of training, special attention is paid to the anatomy and topography of the head and neck area. The course also includes the most common pathological syndromes and anatomical justification of pain pathways. The learning process uses both traditional and modern anatomical research and learning methods. The knowledge acquired in the course is the basis for the development of other medical sectors, without which it is not possible to continue medical studies. Practical Latvian for International Students I (A2)
Course
The present course is intended for students with A1 level Latvian language knowledge. The aim of the course is to improve their spoken and written language skills, vocabulary and knowledge of grammatical structures. The course promotes the acquisition of communicative competences including the pragmatic and sociolinguistic competences, and develops students’ understanding of the peculiarities of the Latvian language system and use in the social context, the study process and professional activities. The course has been developed in accordance with the language learning, teaching and assessment guidelines for A2 level set out by the European Council and the Latvian language A2 level description content.
Student Deep Science Hackathon 2019

On December 6-8, 2019, the first Deep Science Hackathon for students is going to start at ISSP UL! The Student Deep Science Hackathon will be a workshop for students to create and develop new innovative ideas, which will identify the strongest / most interesting ideas (in STEM fields) and build interdisciplinary teams with innovation potential. Within 3 days, participants will form interdisciplinary teams with pre-submitted ideas, develop them with mentors, and present a commercialization plan to the jury, scientists, investors and stakeholders at the end of the event. During the event, participants will be provided with mentor support, a coworking environment, and information to complete their commercialization steps. Citizens of the European Union can use study loans and student loans from credit institutions with a state guarantee (state-owned development finance institution ALTUM) for studies at Latvian universities, including the University of Latvia. STUDY LOAN meant for covering tuition fees at accredited higher education establishments ("tertiary institutions") in Latvia. STUDENT LOAN meant for covering the day-to-day needs of the student. Credit can be claimed and received bystudents –citizens of the Republic of Latvia and persons, who have foreign passport, as well as other citizens of the European Union, who has a valid permanent residence permit and if students are matriculated at a Latvian higher education institution in an accredited and licenced study programme and have signed a contract with the educational establishment.
