Course
The aim of the course providing general understanding on the legal sources and the fields of application of the European labour law, including the knowledge on the importance of the European labour law in national legal systems and its practical application The course provides special attention to the legal sources of European labour law such as case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, European Social Rights Committee and Court of Justice of the EU and its application in practice. The course is conducted by using critical thinking method by developing and excelling the skills necessary for the identification of necessary legal sources, their search in data bases of the case-law (Eur-Lex, Curia, HUDOC), analysis and application in the practice. One of basic study material of the course is e-learning platform HELP 28 course “Labour Law as Human Rights” created under joint project of the Council of Europe and EU Commission for promotion of further education of the legal

Principles of development biology
Course
The aim of the course is to provide an outline of fundamental mechanisms in developmental biology. The students are introduced to principles of developmental anatomy and genetics, cell-cell communication, as well as fertilization differences between various species and its‘ consequential role in embriogenesis. After that, the embriogenesis processes are characterised in invertebrate modelorganisms and main classes of vertebrates. To expand comprehension of structural development students are acquainted with importance of stem cell in organogenesis and formation of organ systems, sex determination and postembrionic development. At the end of the course the medical and evolutional aspects of developmental biology are highlighted to indicate role of developmental process in life cycle context. The scientific seminars are focused on analysis performed by students of specific problems in developmental biology, that would demonstrate practical and experimental aspects in this research

The aim of the course is to provide the students with basic knowledge of the Persian language. The students acquire the Arabic-Persian alphabet and phonetics paying special attention to the sounds which do not exist in Latvian. The students learn the basics of Persian grammar focusing on the verbs “būden” and “dāšten”. The students learn the skills to form simple sentences with these verbs. The course develops all four language skills: writing, reading, speaking and listening.

Supervision practice

The aim of the course is to educate students in application of different supervision forms (individual, group, collegial supervision) in social work practice, and to develop necessary skills. During the practice students are in the role of supervisee or supervisor, which depends from the assigned task. In the role of a supervisee student can develop understanding about the content and process of supevision. The obtained knowledge helps to develop skills, which are necessary for supervisor’s role. As a supervisee student participates in individual supervision, where s/he discusses his/her social work practice and participates in group supervision. As a supervisor student offers individual and group supervision to social work specialists. Important part of the practice assignments is the collegial supervision, in which students develop group work skills and render mutual support. Practice encourages the development of self-reflection and analytical ability.

The course especially aims to cater to the needs of the students of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, Psychology and Arts, Faculty of Medicine, Faulty of Humanities as well as any other professionals whose work not only allows but also provides for communication with easy language users. Students will be able to use Easy Language as one of their professional tools and understand the target groups of Easy Language users and their need for a specific language level.
