The House of Sports will have several multifunctional halls that can be used for different sports. Students and employees will also have access to a large swimming pool and gym, accessible sports laboratories and a research centre. The House of Sports will have: Three sports halls of different capacities; Aerobic halls; Dance hall; Sports laboratory; Swimming pools; Counter-current swimming pool; Family zone; Rehabilitation, physiotherapy and massage centre; Fitness hall; UL Sports history and achievements wall; 100 m running track and other common areas.
Upon successful completion of the course “Chinese language consecutive interpreting I” students are offered an opportunity to broaden their skills in oral interpreting. At the beginning of the course, there will be a short survey of interpreting in the context of cultural communication between Europe and Asia (in the Latvian language). Tasks of the course are to introduce consecutive and simultaneous interpreting methods in the Chinese language (such as literary language expressions and descriptive method) in detail as well as to practice interpreting from Latvian into the Chinese language. The main objective of the course is to develop students’ skills in interpreting documentaries, movies, news and interviews from Latvian into the Chinese language. Latvian and Chinese languages are used in translation.

Artis Straupenieks – a winner of the scholarship established by the Latvian Sworn Notary Council and administered by the UL Foundation in the academic year 2012/13, alumnus of UL Faculty of Law, lawyer of the law office “Eversheds Sutherland Bitāns”. Support In April 2013, A.Straupenieks donated EUR 3486.04 toward participation of the UL Law Faculty student team in the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Mott Court in October 2013, Germany. The UL Faculty of Law and its students every year take part in several international moot courts. Over the years several new exciting and promising moot courts have been established in the fields of law that cannot be studied in Latvia. On January 1, 2018, University of Latvia Culture Centre was founded. The main goals of University of Latvia Culture Centre are to promote the participation of students and employees of the University of Latvia in creative programs of culture, art and education, and to promote a lifestyle based on cultural values. Currently, 21 amateur art groups operate under the authority of the Culture Centre - choirs, dance groups, vocal ensembles, early music ensemble, theater, brass band and pottery studio. There are around 830 members of LU amateur art collectives, of which about 600 are students or graduates. Collectively, they actively participate in events organized by the University of Latvia, the State and local government, international festivals and competitions, as well as in events initiated by themselves. The scholarship has been established in support of outstanding University of Latvia (UL) 1 st year doctoral students in 2017 by the patron “Mikrotīkls”. Its goal is to promote excellence at the UL and to advance growth and research opportunities of the most talented young doctoral students. The scholarship is intended for doctoral students in the field of exact and medical sciences from the UL Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry, Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Chemistry. Upon successful fulfilment of all conditions, a scholarship is granted for three years for the development of a doctoral thesis of superior quality. Number of scholarships : 5. The patron, Dr. theol.Modris Kārlis Gulbis (1927–2002) was born in Tērvete civil parish. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology of the University of Latvia and worked as a lecturer at the faculty. In 1944, as a refugee, he went to Germany and later moved to the USA, where he continued his studies and obtained a PhD in theology. M.K.Gulbis has served in several Lutheran churches and been a pastor of US Twin Cities Christ Parish. The memorial scholarship was established with the aim to support gifted and diligent students of UL Faculty of Theology who wish to devote their lives to service in the Latvian Lutheran congregations in Latvia and abroad. In 2014, UL Foundation received a legacy of USD 85000from Modris K. Gulbis Memorial Foundation, which is the source of the scholarships for aspiring students. Support The scholarships have been announced since 2006. Every year, one student of the UL Faculty of Theology receives the scholarship.
Excellence scholarship for those first-year bachelor’s programme students in all fields of science at the University of Latvia (UL), whose origins are in Latgale. The scholarship was founded in 2019 on the initiative of the American Latvian Peter Aloizs Ragaušs, promoting the growth of young people from his native region. The scholarship is intended for the UL first-year bachelor’s programme students who have graduated from secondary school with excellent results and have shown high achievements in both studies and extracurricularactivities, and whose origin can be found in Latgale – the student himself/herself or at least one of his parents has officially declared their place of residence in Latgale. The core of the study programme consists of courses in diplomacy, foreign policy and international relations, in which the acquisition of both theoretical knowledge and applicable skills is equally important. The aim is to educate highly qualified and professional specialists, providing the required set of knowledge in diplomacy and international relations to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia (including Latvian embassies and consulates abroad), Ministry of Defence and other public administration institutions, international institutions and the private sector requiring skills and in-depth knowledge of international relations, international organizations and decision-making. Andrejs Pildegovičs' Diplomacy Scholarship has been established to motivate students and support the study programme, every year enabling one student to receive significant financial support from the UL Foundation.
