Optometry basics

This course is provided for those interested to continue study in Professional Master Study program "Optometry" and having bachelor degree (or equivalent education) in other fields except optometry. The aim of the course is to establish basic knowledge and skills in topics essential for starting studies in Professional Master Study program "Optometry": geometrical optics, physical optics, visual optics, anatomy and physiology of the eye, refraction, common eye diseases, binocular vision, contact lenses, optometric instruments. Every week, one of the topics is discussed and one of the tests are performed to check the understanding of the topic. At the end of the course, the final test is performed with questions from all the topics discussed during the course.

Jānis Ruberts (1874–1934)

of the University of Latvia. Until 1925 while he was serving as rector, the university significantly expanded, creating new departments, faculties and acquiring new properties. Contacts with foreign universities were established, scientific articles were published and the defense of doctoral dissertations was begun. He founded the Latvian Society of Ophthalmologists in 2006 and was its first chairman. He was elected honorary chairman of the Baltic Union of Ophthalmologists. He has studied the pathohistology of the eye, the etiology of flicktenulous eye diseases, tear ductus disease, the effects of adrenaline on intraocular pressure, cataract extraction, acable siderosis, and a history of ophthalmology. J.Ruberts established the Latvian school of ophthalmology. Awarded Class III of the Order of the Three Stars in 1927, as well as four Russian Orders. Died in 1934 in Riga and was buried in the Great Cemetery. As the cemetery has not been preserved, a memorial stone has been created on the side of Senču

In 2024 the summer school is planned to be held live in Riga. Summer School of Latvian Language and Culture is organized for students and other interested parties who want not only to learn and improve their Latvian language skills, but also to broaden their knowledge of Latvian history, art and folklore. One of the biggest challenges the team mentions is the slight difficulty in starting to develop an idea on the right path, but communication has been the key to everything, and when the exchange of thoughts, ideas and opinions has taken place over time, the participants have found the right path. The challenge, which can be justified by the benefits, was the lack of experience on the topic, but now the team members can conclude that they have acquired new skills and established contacts that will undoubtedly help them in the future. As the created tool is developed on a modern basis, it will not be difficult to integrate it into the required system – the team achieved much more than expected, which can be concluded with a safe and sustainable tool. Practical pedagogy for implementing work-based learning

The content of the programme provides the opportunity to understand the nature of the working environment-based training (WEBT) its role in the vocational education and in preparation of qualified specialists. Participants will analyse qualitative WEBT or practice, organization of a company, legal and pedagogical conditions of cooperation of its employees, teachers and students. The programme provides for the development of communication and contact skills using interactive teaching methods. The programme provides a detailed description of WEBT organization and implementation, analyzing students` learning motivation and conditions enabling personality development. Participants will learn diverse teaching and training techniques and ways for the evaluation of the learning outcomes. The program also includs practical recommendations on time and stress management. The program is offered in full-time as well as in form of distance learning.
