The aim is not only to promote understanding of the terms, but also to be able to use them actively and freely. The purpose of the course is to develop reading skills, to teach making of summaries of specialty texts in English, to promote presentation skills and to learn intercultural differences in different communicative situations.

The aim of the course is to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the nature of property law and its correlation with other instruments of property law, contract law and civil procedure. The course should provide students with knowledge on newest changes (during the last year) in the legal framework in relation to ownership rights, rights to another person's item (servitutes, real charges, pledge, option to purchase, construction rights); on judgements of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in relation to ownership rights analysing Article 1 of the First Protocol of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, Judgements of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia evaluating compliance of separate regulatory enactments to Article 105 of the Constitution.

After registering for the semester, the students register for the elective (Part B and Part C) study courses, using the UL information system LUIS. Registration for the compulsory (Part A) courses takes place automatically, as the registration for the semester is completed. The student can obtain the right to acquire a particular elective course either without restrictions or through a selection process on the basis of their performance during the previous academic year. The IREX Baltic Media Literacy Programme at the University of Latvia is a project funded by the United States Department of State. It aims to educate media literacy students at the University of Latvia and the general public. The project is implemented at the University of Latvia at the Advanced Social and Political Research Institute at the Faculty of Social Sciences. The programme includes educational, creative, and research activities. Within the framework of the project, new study courses have been developed ("Journalism in the Era of Disinformation" (6 ECT) for Communication Science students and "Fundamentals of Media Literacy for Information Specialists" (3 ECT) for Information Management students). In August 2020, summer studies for students of the bachelor level programmes at the Faculty of Social Sciences "Three Stories of Media Literacy" took place. The rule of law is analysed as the guarantee the compliance with the government by the people and the personal fundamental rights. The students will learn of the current national and international legal instruments for ensuring and protecting the rule of law set out also in the laws and human rights documents of the European Union.
