Faculty of Business, Management and Economics (University of Latvia, UL FBME) in co-operation with the Faculty of Engineering Economics and Management (Riga Technical University, RTU FEEM) is organizing the Student Scientific Conference, whichwill be held online on 6th of May, 2020. The registration for the Conference is open from the 3rdof Februarytill the 30thof April, 2020. Participation in the conference is free. The authors of the best reports will get valuable prizes. The course aims to develop students’ spoken and written English language skills to be used for academic purposes and in various areas where geoinformatics is applied. The course provides for the acquisition of the fundamental geography and GIS (geographic information system) terminology in English as well as raises students’ awareness of academic and specialized language. The enabling objectives of the course are to develop students’ skills for selecting academic literature, reading it for acquiring information and making summaries, abstracts and reports as well as selecting professional literature on similar topics to compare the specific features of the academic and professional discourse; repeat and consolidate students’ knowledge of grammar at level B2-C1; consolidate students’ skills of expressing a professional opinion in English and update students’ presentation skills. 15. All abstracts will be published on the websites of both Faculties. The best will be invited to submit scientific papers for publication in the UL and RTU scientific journals. The conference work will be organized in five sections – four in Latvian and one in English : Contemporary Issues in Business and Economics. The Student Scientific Conference will take place at the premises of the University of Latvia and Riga Technical University. ISSP UL project competition for students and young scientists

Since 2015 every year a competition of projects among Master and PhD students as well as Young scientists takes place. Every applicant submits a research proposal, which is evaluated by experts. Successful proposals receive funding for one year of research activities, after which the results are reported. Up to now almost 50 projects have been realized with the total amount of funding more than 360 kEUR.

The study course is divided into two parts. The first part is devoted to the basic knowledge of inorganic and analytical chemistry. The acid-base theories, red-ox processes, complex compounds of biological systems, as well as thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, chemical equilibrium are discussed. An insight into classical and modern methods of analysis is given. The second part is devoted to the fundamentals of structure, stereoisomers and reaction mechanisms of organic compounds. Students acquire structure activity relationships of the main families of organic compounds, their properties and role in biochemical processes and pharmacy.
