The aim of the study course is to facilitate the doctoral students’ research and innovation competence in educational sciences, by using technological solutions for promoting the education quality at school and/or higher education institution. Within the study course, the doctoral student designs, approbates and presents a topical product for the digital learning environment intended for solving challenges of educational practice. The study course comprises two scientific seminars (16 hours each), during which doctoral students will work on developing, approbation and presentation of a product that is significant for solving challenges initiated by educational practice. The sports life of the University of Latvia (UL) is organised by the UL Sports Centre in the Faculty of Business, Management and Economics(Aspazijas bulvāris 5, Riga), “Elektrum” olympic centre (Grostonas iela 6b, Riga) and “Ķeizarmežš” sports complex (Ezermalas iela 30, Rīga). These are basic sports bases for UL students. Sports life of the UL takes place at other sports bases as well: Daugava Stadium, football pitch of the Hanza Secondary School and gyms of the UL faculties. In cooperation with the Student Council, events and competitions are organised in a variety of sports. Students are offered the opportunity to attend trainings in basketball, wrestling, football, volleyball, floorball, general physical preparedness, fitness, frisbee, skiing, table tennis and kendo UL appreciates the importance of sports in the growth of student’s personality. The aim of the study course is to give students an insight into the concept of competitiveness and the evolution of competitiveness theory, as well as the factors influencing competitiveness and approaches of competitiveness assessment at the micro (enterprise) and macro (industry, state) level. Tasks of the study course: 1. look at the concepts of competition and competitiveness; 2. to analyze the determinants of competitiveness and its evaluation indicators at both micro and macro level; 3. to examine the evolution of the theory of competitiveness and the concepts of building competitive advantage; 4. to evaluate the competitive advantages of certain sectors of the national economy in Latvia; 5. compare the competitiveness of different EU countries.
