Adaptation to endurance and resistance training
Course
The aim of the current course is to give an advanced knowledge to the students about the acute response and chronic adaptation to resistance and endurance training. The objectives of the course are: 1. to evaluate physiological and neuromuscular differences between aerobic and strength-type loads, as well as to acquire methodological principles for determining these differences; 2. to evaluate and explain the competing adaptation mechanisms, if the physical loads of resistance and endurance are performed simultaneously; 3. to provide knowledge whether a person can perform aerobic and strength loads at the same time, without compromising the adaptive changes in the human body promoted by each individual load. The language of instruction is Latvian and English.

Course
The aim of the course is to promote the development of students' knowledge and competencies for pedagogical work in educational institutions. Tasks of the course are: 1. to help build an understanding about educational normative documents, principles of planning and organization of physics / natural sciences study process; 2. to analyze didactic theories, approaches, teaching methods and resources in the organization of physics/ science education by participating in lectures and seminars and independently studying scientific literature and methodological materials; 3. to practice planning and analyzing approaches, methods and techniques for achieving specific results, developing creative and critical thinking and understanding of the ways of assessing learners' outcomes and their implementation. Languages of instruction are Latvian and English.

Master thesis II
Course
The study course "Master thesis II" is a continuation of study course "Master thesis I". Master’s Thesis is self-dependent research. The aim in preparing the Master’s thesis is to strengthen theoretical knowledge and academic skills in the area of the law, developing them in accordance with the requirements of the master’s degree study programme, also preparing the student for scholarly research work and for pursuit of a doctorate. The Master’s thesis satisfies the requirements of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia vis-à-vis the successful defence of the thesis, including the preparation of a working plan, identification of the necessary sources of information, and the writing, editing and defending of the thesis.

The course aims at advancing English language skills of doctoral students majoring in social sciences as well as preparing them for the doctoral examination in English. Tasks of the course are: 1) to offer extensive practice in the use of high-level accurate grammar, academic vocabulary, field-specific terminology in the academic context, 2) to promote critical reading skills crucial to doctoral studies and scientific publications, 3) to foster the skills in drafting, revising and reviewing of written scientific and academic genres that conform to international conventions, 4) to enhance the skill to communicate research in national and international scientific conferences.

Aim of the course - to provide knowledge about theoretical knowledge of gender and media studies. To provide students with the skills to evaluate the role of media in maintaining gender stereotypes and prejudices in society, as well as to learn the principles of inclusive media content. Course tasks: 1. Analyze the ways in which different media content (TV, print and new media, cinema, advertising) reproduces, promotes, or deconstructs various gender stereotypes and biases; 2. To learn various research approaches to media analysis within the framework of gender; 3. To consider the responsibility of media content creators in solving various gender biases and stereotypes. Computer networks laboratory
Course
The wide availability of modern computer networks creates new opportunities for the automation of experiments, remote control, data collection and compilation in research in various fields of natural sciences. The aim of the course is to develop skills in the use and management of computer networks for physics undergraduate and other students who do not specialize in computer sciences or information technology. The tasks are to master the application of the dominant network technologies, protocols and standards, as well as the configuration of equipment in common application scenarios, to learn to diagnose and eliminate errors, to follow the best practices of computer network security. MikroTik routers with RouterOS software are used in the practical exercises. The course language is Latvian.

Historical Geography
Course
Historical geography is sub-discipline of the history and it allows to analyse or to discover historical spaces and their role in social and cultural processes in the past. The aim of this course is to create an extended understanding regarding changes of the historical spaces that occurred to the Baltic region and territory of Latvia from the Middle Ages until 20th century. Sources used in order to make the reconstruction of spaces are texts, for example, documents, chronicles, travel accounts, cosmographies, diaries, protocols, treaties and contracts. The aim of this course is to present students 1) with the lessons of historical geography theory, 2) central concepts and 3) methods of interpreting historical sources. The instruction language of the course is Latvian.

Course
The purpose of the study course is to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge and competence regarding the management of documents and archives and the organisation thereof in accordance with the requirements of regulatory enactments, national and international standards, for the operational needs of the organisation. Tasks: 1. providing knowledge, acquiring skills and competences for the implementation of documents and archives management processes within the organisation; 2. providing knowledge, acquiring skills and competences for developing, improving and evaluating document systems; 3. providing knowledge, acquiring skills and competences for identifying limited access documents; 4. providing knowledge, acquiring skills and competences for analogue and digital preservation. Basics of designing and publishing a research
Course
The aim of the course is to teach students about research methodology, to independently choose and formulate a research topic, to scientifically design a research work, as well as to give ideas about the possibilities of publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and the principles of designing scientific articles. The tasks of the course are to choose the relevant research topic by analyzing scientific literature, create a research methodology, write a research annotation and introduction. Familiarize yourself with the requirements for publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Develop research tasks based on publication requirements in peer-reviewed journals. Create a research article sample based on the requirements of scientific journals. The course is taught in Latvian and English.

Historiography of Latvia’s History II
Course
The objective of the course – to inform students about existing level of research and main problems of 1918–1991 period history of Latvia. We will analyse different schools in Latvian Historiography, beginning with the national school (A. Svabe, F. Rozins). The significant influence of politics to history is characteristic for mentioned period, especially its chapter after 1945 and it is determined by relatively short time distance from past events, totalitarian power in Latvia, uncritical approach towards research of history and mission of historians during the Soviet regime. The interpretations of history of interwar period as well as German and Soviet occupation period are analyzed within the course.
