No, the studies in the English language programme have no state financed places or scholarships for students irrelevant of the citizenship. You are advised to inquire about financial support (grants and scholarships) from your home country – you’ll be able to provide them the certificate of enrollment and your transcript of records for proof every semester. Some state financed scholarship competitions by the Latvian government for gifted students may be announced along the way but you should rely on your own resources at all times.

The Centre for Health Management and Informatics of the Faculty of Medicine (FM)of the University of Latvia (UL) was established in 2012 as a platform for projects on health organisation and management, economics, biomedicine and informatics, with an aim to promote the development of health management and informatics in Latvia, as well as to offer expertise in this field to industry companies and national government institutions. The Centre is also responsible for encouraging the establishment and implementation of professional and post-graduate education programmes for medical students and students of other disciplines, and for obtaining interdisciplinary competencies by health workers.

The study course is devoted to increasing a doctoral student’s competences in demonstrating practically usable results of scientific research. As part of the course, according to the research theme selected by the student, its interests and topical offers at the time a doctoral student independently or in collaboration with other doctoral students/lecturers of the University of Latvia under the guidance of the promotional work’s supervisor or another experienced lecturer of the Faculty of Law of the Republic of Latvia prepares a practically applicable research-based review/research or similar work (for instance, review on a legal issue at the Legal Further Education and Professional Development Centre of the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, a review following the Supreme Court, the Central Election Committee, the Ombudsman, the Saeima or other institution’s request, review of a legal project, summary of court practice or similar)

Methodology and Grounds for Adjudications
Course
The aim of the course is to give to the students knowledge, develop their skills and competences in theoretical and practical implementation of law and independent understanding/solution of conceptual legal problem issues in problems of argumentation of a legal adjudication. The objective of the course is to promote the learning of necessary skills, knowledge and competences, which are significant for current labour market in developing skills of critical thinking. The study course is aimed at analysis of practical court adjudications and included legal argumentation and learning of the methodology for preparing adjudications in compliance with general legal principles of a democratic, constitutional state. The study course gives a special emphasis to influence of the Latvian legal system as a legal system belonging to the Western scope of law (continental Europe or Romance-Germanic family of law) to methodology and legal argumentation of developing adjudications and critique.

The aim of the course is to expand the knowledge base of the doctoral students, which is necessary for independent research (doctoral thesis), as well as to promote interdisciplinarity of research. The doctoral school offers lectures and seminars on topical issues and problems in the humanities as delivered by leading experts in the field. The study course promotes the reinforcement and in-depth acquisition of professional skills both in the respective sub-branch and in a broader field of humanities, by covering the topical issues in philology (literary studies, linguistics) and art studies (folklore, theatre history and theory), as well as history and philosophy. Participation in the doctoral school can be compensated by experience in foreign higher education or research institutions in the field of languages and cultures.
