The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the realm of the humanities, their development and role within the system of values of modern society, and the peculiarities of academic research in the field. The objectives of the course: 1. to acquire the basic knowledge of the information environment of humanities 2. to get acquainted with the basic principles of academic communication 3. to get acquainted with the types of research and their end products 4. to raise awareness of the position of a particular language/cultural environment in the field of humanities 5. to get acquainted with the specific directions of studies and research in the field of language and culture of a particular sub-programme Language of instruction: Latvian/English; sub-programme languages in seminars (French, German, Russian)

To acquaint students with the National Civil Protection System Latvian Republic, as well as an introduction to occupational health and safety specialist activities in an emergency situation to prevent the company
1. Introduce a national policy in the field of civil defence in Latvia.
2. To evaluate the Latvian contingent of natural and anthropogenic disasters, their causes and possible prevention pathways.
3. To learn the ideas about disaster' management principles.
4. Mastering the population, public authorities and economic operators'rights and obligations of civil defence system
5. Become familiar with personal protective equipment, the categories and types, conditions of use at work and in civil defense

Design of Paper, Natural Materials and Plastic Materials and Their Teaching and Learning Methodology
Course
The aim of the course is to develop the mindset skills of students in term of design by exploring the characteristics of paper, natural materials and plastic materials, application possibilities, processing techniques as well as expertise in the learning process. The tasks of the course: 1. To develop the technical skills of material processing with paper, nature and plastic materials by ensuring visualization of design process; 2. To incite development of figurative thinking and spatial perceptions in creation of objects by applying artistic means of expression; 3. To develop problem solving, planning, evaluating skills in terms of making articles by applying materials and processing techniques in a creative way. The course is being hold in Latvian language.

Course
The purpose of the course is to provide an insight into the multicultural environment of the USA, to introducē to the most important stages in the development of the USA and the American nationa and their significance in the development of the political system and democratic traditions of the country. Tasks of the course are as follows: 1. to provides basic knowledge about American cultural metaphors, traditions, the depiction of the history and diversity of the USA in art as well as the history of development and usage of American English - the regional variant of the English language in the life of the society of the US; 2. for students to develop the skill to acquire, analyze facts and to collate information from various sources and the ability to undertake individual and collective research projects. The course is delivered in English.

International Organizations and Economic Globalization
Course
The aim of this course is to introduce students with economic aspects of globalization, its historical development, influencing factors and consequences. The objectives of the course are: to look at the main international organizations and their impact on globalization processes in the world; pay particular attention to international organizations such as the World Trade Organization, the World Bank, the IMF, NATO, the UN, the OECD and others; analyzing global economic integration processes and characterizing the world's largest trading blocs, customs unions and common markets. The course analyzes European Union as the highest form of economic integration, paying special attention to the most important areas of its activities. The languages of instruction are Latvian and English.

The aim of the study course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of sports medicine necessary for the preparation of high-level athletes, introduction of healthy lifestyle knowledge and practice in society, as well as the development of sound recommendations for improving quality of life. The objectives of the course is: 1. to provide knowledge about the necessity of regularity, type, intensity and planning of physical loads, risk factors for congestion; 2.to acquire basic skills for assessment of physical development and functional ability; 3.to learn the functional features of children and young people, older people, as well as people with special needs. The aim of the course is to promote the development of students' knowledge and competencies for pedagogical work in educational institutions. Tasks of the course are: 1. to help build an understanding about educational normative documents, principles of planning and organization of physics / natural sciences study process; 2. to analyze didactic theories, approaches, teaching methods and resources in the organization of physics/ science education by participating in lectures and seminars and independently studying scientific literature and methodological materials; 3. to practice planning and analyzing approaches, methods and techniques for achieving specific results, developing creative and critical thinking and understanding of the ways of assessing learners' outcomes and their implementation. Languages of instruction are Latvian and English.

Commercial Law
Course
The aim of the study course is to provide Master's students with basic knowledge on the legal framework for merchants and commercial activity. The course is primarily based on the regulation of the Commercial Law of Latvia. In order to achieve the aim of the course a number of topics are addressed: the concept of commercial law and the place of commercial law in the system of civil law, restrictions to commercial activities, the commercial register, commercial enterprise and the firm of a merchant, commercial powers of attorney, commercial agents and commercial brokers, commercial transactions, commercial partnerships, limited companies and joint-stock companies, reorganisation of commercial companies, groups of companies, other types of commercial companies. The course is taught in Latvian language.

Professional ethics
Course
The aim of the course is to provide for the acquisition of the principles of professional ethics and the restrictions imposed by legal provisions to ensure that legal professionals perform job duties and responsibilities in the framework of pre-trial investigations in a manner that reflects the highest ethical and professional standards of conduct. In order to achieve the course aim, the students have to acquire an understanding of social values and communication rules, the concept of ethics and the foundations of corporate or professional ethics, professional ethics as self-restraint of each professional and standards of conduct set by colleagues, conflicts of interest in ethics and law, the concept of power and the use of power beyond the boundaries of law and ethics, professional responsibility. The course is taught in Latvian.

Bachelor's paper Preliminary defence in philosophy
Course
The course is intended as supporting measure for bachelor's thesis writing. The aim of the seminar is to improve research as well as academic writing skills. During the seminars students will discuss the guidelines of thesis structure, requirements of drawing up, aspects of academic writings and translation of terminology into Latvian, prepare presentations on research topics and at the end of term submit a draft for discussions. Course tasks: 1) foster a timely development of a bachelor's thesis; 2) to improve its quality, which involves developing such academic skills that can be acquired not only by preparing presentations of one's bachelor thesis project, but also by discussing and evaluating each other's works and assignments.
