Commercial Law
Course
The aim of the study course is to provide Master's students with basic knowledge on the legal framework for merchants and commercial activity. The course is primarily based on the regulation of the Commercial Law of Latvia. In order to achieve the aim of the course a number of topics are addressed: the concept of commercial law and the place of commercial law in the system of civil law, restrictions to commercial activities, the commercial register, commercial enterprise and the firm of a merchant, commercial powers of attorney, commercial agents and commercial brokers, commercial transactions, commercial partnerships, limited companies and joint-stock companies, reorganisation of commercial companies, groups of companies, other types of commercial companies. The course is taught in Latvian language.

Course
The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge in the history of Latvia's modern times (beginning of the 16th-20th centuries), by getting to know certain processes, events, conflicts, learning sources and literature. Course tasks: 1. To get acquainted with the most significant sources in the history of Latvia's modern times. 2. Start working with sources, analyze them. 3. To get acquainted with the most important developments of Latvia's new times and their impact on Latvia's historical development. 4. To acquire material presentation skills. 5. Understand the place of Latvia in the context of regional and European history. The language of instruction is Latvian.

Natural systems, their diversity and protection
Course
The aim of the course is to introduce students to Latvia's living natural resources, the diversity of fauna, flora and habitats, emphasise the importance of plants and animals in human society, as well as introduce to the most important ecological concepts, ecological laws, and terminology. Course tasks: 1. To create an understanding of the importance of species in ecosystems, of the current problems of the protection of biological diversity, the impact of changes caused by climate and human economic activity on natural systems in Latvia and on a global scale. 2. To create an understanding of the basic principles of autecology, or the influence of environmental factors, to introduce demecology, or population ecology, to teach the basics of ecosystem ecology and landscape ecology. Archaeological Heritage in Contemporary Europe
Course
The study course is devoted to different issues of archaeological heritage protection and management in contemporary Europe, paying attention to the development of idea of archaeological heritage and its protection, archaeological research methods and archaeological popularization issues. The aim of the course is to characterize the topicalities of archaeological heritage management and its importance in contemporary society and to improve students' research skills when dealing with heritage. The objectives of the course are following: 1. to analyze the formation of the understanding of archaeological heritage and its values, 2. to look at and evaluate archaeological research methods, 3. to describe the mutual relationships between archaeological heritage and society. The instruction language of the course is Latvian.

Gender and Media
Course
Aim of the course - to provide knowledge about theoretical knowledge of gender and media studies. To provide students with the skills to evaluate the role of media in maintaining gender stereotypes and prejudices in society, as well as to learn the principles of inclusive media content. Course tasks: 1. Analyze the ways in which different media content (TV, print and new media, cinema, advertising) reproduces, promotes, or deconstructs various gender stereotypes and biases; 2. To learn various research approaches to media analysis within the framework of gender; 3. To consider the responsibility of media content creators in solving various gender biases and stereotypes. The course is developed for the Master program in chemistry. The aim of the course is to provide students with in-depth knowledge of the chemistry of transition and internal transition elements, looking at their most important compound classes, clusters, carbonyls, as well as the dimensional structure of molecules and ions and the determination of point symmetry groups. The tasks of the study course: 1. To provide theoretical knowledge about the chemistry of transition and internal transition elements, 2. To develop the ability to use various diagrams to characterize the properties of connections of transition and internal transition elements, 3. To develop the ability to predict the dimensional structure of molecules and ions. The study course is delivered in Latvian and English.

Course
The aim of the course is to introduce psychological, social and technological aspects determining human interaction with computer. Course will provide a comprehensive overview of the principles of human perception and their relations with computational systems and interface usability. Students will also have skills necessary for conducting empirical research in testing computational systems and interfaces. Course tasks: 1) Explain the area of interface research within the context and overall development of interdisciplinary research; 2) Provide the understanding about factors determining interface perception (within the context of different areas of computing science); 3) Provide a core overview of theoretic frameworks and applicable methods.

Computer security and vulnerabilities
Course
The course is intended to provide an overview in computer system and network security, covering common vulnerabilities and attack patterns from which the systems need to be protected. The tasks of this study course are to present the fundamentals of computer security, risk modeling, the process of security analysis and penetration testing, common web application and database system vulnerabilities, security of passwords and network authentication schemes, buffer overflow and privilege escalation attacks, and methods of post-attack forensic analysis. The course includes lectures combined with practical exercises that will require students to obtain hands-on skills for security testing of computers and networks. The language of instruction is Latvian.

Legal system and the most important aspects of labour law
Course
The aim of the course is to reinforce students’ knowledge of essential elements in the legal system, as well as the most essential aspects in labour law, inter alia, the right of an employee and the employer to patentable invention. The objectives of the course: 1) to improve theoretical knowledge of law, legal system, sources of law, persons applying law in the process of exercising rights; 2) to develop understanding of the role of law enforcement institutions in protecting human rights and ensuring functions of the State; 3) to master legal labour regulation, which defines the legal relationship of the employer and the employee and relationships closely linked to labour relations.
