The aim of the study course is to promote students' understanding of the nature of chronic diseases, the principles of their diagnosis, treatment and care, the importance of patient education and the continuity of the care process in a multicultural environment. Tasks of the study course: 1. Provide and perform evidence-based chronic patient care, 2. To ensure the continuity and sustainability of care activities for patients with chronic diseases. Promote the necessary interdisciplinary cooperation in the care of patients with chronic diseases. To help the patient acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for self-care by applying teaching methods and teaching materials in patient education. Introduction to the Economic Geography
Course
Objectives of course are learning methods and applications of research in the economic geography. The goal will be achieved by implementing the following course tasks: 1. acquiring knowledge about the processes and regularities of economic geography, 2. performing in practical work, using various methods and forms of data processing, analysis and presentation of the obtained results, 3. learning the scientific terminology of economic geography in foreign languages, 4. carrying out ongoing practical and research work. Economic Geography introduces students to economic geography content and the main research directions, location theories and basic laws, economic geography reveal their main concepts and patterns, as well as analysis of their worlld economic geography and economic geography of the world regions. The course is taught in Latvian.

The aim of the study course is to promote students' understanding of the safe and responsible use of office information and communication technologies by ensuring the efficiency and productivity of their chosen future professional activities. Tasks of the course: • to introduce the safe and responsible use of modern equipment of the modern office, taking into account the requirements of ergonomics and normative acts, as well as harming their health; • to develop the skills of office applications and Internet services and online information processing and collaboration tools in accordance with the professional needs of at least the basic level of European computer driver licence; • provide insights into specific (planned for professional) related applications; • create an understanding and ability to choose the right software and device for the task you are performing. Clinical diagnostic methods in optometry

The aim of the study course is to deepen students knowledge about the principles of optometric (ophthalmic) instruments and investigative techniques, as well as to get acquainted with specialized investigation techniques and develop their skills for their use in optometry and medical diagnostics.
The objectives of the study course are the following:
  • to provide knowledge about the principles of eye tissue and light interactions and applications in standard and specialized diagnostics;
  • to give skills and abilities to interpret the results obtained by diagnostic methods;
  • to introduce the causes of diagnostic methods errors and comparison of the results.

Course aims: This course aims to give students an introduction to various aspects of linguistic anthropology through examining a broad range of ethnographic examples from all over the world. Course tasks: 1. Show how language relates to culture, how different cultures make use of language in different ways, and how some have suggested how language creates culture itself. 2. Deal with language from the beginnings of participant observation to more recent developments such as the use of culture and language as acts of persuasion to create culture itself 3. Shows how words are related to things, how language may have developed and the playfulness that language can contain. Languages of instruction are Latvian and English.

Literature of the Nations Around the Baltic Sea
Course
The aim of the course is to introduce the national literatures of the Baltic sea region and their development processes. The objective is set at to provide an overview of the impact of historical facts, political and philosophical ideas on the very different development processes in the literature of this area (starting with oral literature and ending with the avant-garde of the 21st century). The course offers a glimpse into Latvian, Estonian, Baltic German, Finnish and Lithuanian literatures as well as in the literature of the Scandinavian countries (Swedish, Norwegian and Danish) in the context of political and culture-historical events of the era, focusing on the key texts and their producers. The consolidating seminars (themes: no. 6-8,24) engage students in the establishment of an overview of the literary development processes of the Baltic Sea region. The language of instruction is English.

Important processes, such as radiation transfer, formation of stars, and others occur in in the interstellar medium. Therefore, knowledge on interstellar medium is essential for understanding what shapes the Universe as we see it. The aim of the course is to introduce students to basic aspects of interstellar medium, as well as the physical phenomena governing large-scale (nebulae) and small-scale (atoms) processes in the interstellar medium. Tasks: learn the main atomic and molecular processes in the interstellar medium; understand the constituent phases of galactic medium; characterize the formation of stars and their effects on the stellar environs; solve quantum physics problems for characterizing macroscopic interstellar objects and vice versa; quantify macroscopic effects in the interstellar medium. Language of instruction is Latvian.

The aim of the course is to study the main features of the three religions, the historical and cultural events created by their coexistence and interaction on the Iberian Peninsula. The main tasks of the course: 1. to provide an understanding of the characteristics of Christian, Jewish and Muslim religions and their interaction with Spanish culture; 2. to study the periods in Spanish history when the presence of these three religions was most intense; 3. to understand the coexistence of three religions in the 21st century Spain. The Years of Change. Third Awakening: Origins, Evolution and Results

The objective of the course is to provide students with an opportunity for in-depth studies of the origin and evolution of the Third Awakening in Latvia in the Baltic and international context. The tasks of the course are to analyze also the preconditions of Awakening, the progress of awakening processes, the development of the domestic policy goals and foreign policy concept of the of the Latvia's Popular Front and the restored Republic of Latvia during the awakening period. The preconditions for the awakening of the people of Latvia developed gradually, new generation had emerged during the years of the Soviet regime, which rejected the lies of the Soviet ideology. The course is intended to examine and analyze the sources about the development of transformation in the 1960s -1980s as well as historical sources created during the Awakening period The language of instruction is Latvian.
