-rays and recorded at 9K, are successfully completed and revealed that the Eu 3+ doping creates traps in all samples, but to obtain information about the processes and specific defect type research has to be moved on and carry out additional analysis. During October/November - mobility to partner Institution, Vinča Institute of Nuclear Science, Belgrade, Serbia. New material LaF 3 : 2mol%Er 3+ , 20mol%Yb 3+ was synthesized by optimized microwave-assisted hydrothermal route, and pure spinel Mg 2 Al 2 O 4 : Yb 3+ structure was obtained. By now phase composition and morphology of acquired structures were investigated. During December participation in the workshop ‘’The Student Deep Science Hackathon’’, at Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL). First tests – application of GdF 3 : Er 3+ , Yb 3+ @SiO 2 and GdF 3 : Er 3+ , Yb 3+ in biology and medicine are started – measurements of luminescence in the temperature range 298 K–403 K. The ongoing research will be continued

spectroscopic methods. UV absorption spectra of SiO 2 glasses and optical fiber waveguides produced from this glass were studied. The main factors, which limit the optical transmissivity of these glasses and waveguides are silicon dangling bonds in 210 nm region, peroxide radicals in 230 nm region and oxygen dangling bonds in the 260 nm region. However the Raman scattering data indicate that in a number of synthetic SiO 2 glasses part of the 260 nm absorption can originate from photoinduced reaction between oxygen and chlorine impurities. 7. Chlorine impurities in SiO2- type materials High-purity synthetic SiO2 materials are routinely produced from SiCl4 , additionally, Cl2 treatment is used for removing of silanol groups in synthesis of "dry" glasses. As a result, all so called "high purity" SiO2 glasses contain undesired Cl impurities. To enable theri quantification and detection, the forms of Cl embedding in SiO2
